There is a version by Cook’s Illustrated that is very good, although sometimes their recipes are hidden behind a pay wall.

I would try Paula Deen’s. My mom made her’s awhile back when we were in a stroganoff phase.

Here is the one I like from the Food Network, as my base recipe …


But I do make a few changes based on a non-written down recipe that has been handed down in our family for generations.

We add in fresh garlic (or minced garlic in oil), and some mushrooms (I prefer the canned button mushrooms when I make Stroganoff vs fresh, because they are all small and uniform in size).  Also throw in a shake of Paprika (or Hungarian Paprika) for colour & flavour (a couple in our family with Old Country Roots, also like a dash of Cayenne Pepper because it gives the dish a wee bit of heat).

Serve it all atop buttered egg-noodles (the wider the better).

Accompany it with lots of great crusty bread & butter and a decent bottle of wine (Red or if you are going with White… choose something like Riesling or Gewurtztraminer that can offset the spices)
