So about two years ago I FINALLY got health insurance. I was excited to FINALLY get on birth control. While we try to be careful its probably a miracle we don’t already have children. Well I changed birth control last sept from the staired hormone pill to the consistent dose hormone pill ( I was on genetrics I can’t remember their name). I changed because it was SUPPOSE to help with acene. Which I think got worse with the pill but it was SUPER gradual.
Anyway fast forward to March and I’ve gone from 150ish to 200 pounds. I honestly don’t know when it happened – like did it start happening with the first pill or the second? Anyway, I’m off of it now. We plan on having children right after marriage so I guess its better for my system to get off it now anyway. And I’m pretty sure it was the pills fault as I wasn’t any less active.
Well I’m at 180 now. So thats better. I tried on my wedding dress- and yes I can zip it up, but but my boobs are overflowing out of the dress. I really need to lose another 20-30 pounds by Oct. Have other bees achieved this? What did you do?
I’m avoiding beef, pasta, bread. Mostly eating chicken and fish. Got soda-pop out of my diet. Drinking TONS of water. I practice yoga, run, and dance. I’m not super great at running or yoga but hey I’m doing it about 2-3 times a week and making an effort. Dance I’ve been doing since I was 23.
I feel like there is so much going on in my life right now that sometimes I wonder if the stress is making me gain weight >_<
Advice? What did other bees do?
(feel like I should add I’m 5’11, so I don’t show my weight as much as shorter folks, I think thats why it snuck up on me >_<)

If you are ok with the way you use it, I recommend NuvaRing. I think it’s probably the best birth control on the market. I’m a physician assistant and when I worked in Ob/gyn I ordered this for everyone who wanted birth control and who was agreeable to using it (you insert this small flexible ring into your vagina, leave it in for 3 weeks, on 4th week you take it out and get your period, or you can just insert a new ring and skip the period) Sounds gross and weird but honestly it’s no worse than a tampon.
I’ve used it myself and I loved it. I tried taking oral contraceptives (yasmin) and for someone with very light periods, no PMS it made me have heavier period and terrible moodiness. NuvaRing didn’t cause me any of these side effects. I didnt’ gain any weight with it and my skin was better on it than off.
Hopefully your insurance will cover it, I would give it a try. Can’t hurt.

I’ve been scared off the nuvaring. My best friend used it and it caused her hormones to go crazy. She was crying all the time. She got hysterical over nothing (example her boyfriend drove passed a resturant on a road trip and because he didn’t stop and she didn’t ask him to, she started crying). I think she said she gained weight on it too- but I’m not sure. I know everyone is different and I’m just too afraid to experiment with birth control right now- because my wedding is in Oct. Plus we are going to try to get pregnant like the day after we are married, so its only two more months. I appericate the recommendation though! If I wasn’t going to try to get pregnant so soon and I wasn’t terrified of the possible weight gain I would be trying other birth control solutions. When everyone talked about gaining weight on Birth control for some reason I thought you would notice in the first or second month. I really didn’t know I was gaining so much. ergh.

Everyone is totally different — some people love Depo, I gained over 50 pounds. Some people love NuvaRing — I know of two people who got pregnant on it. Some people love Implanon — my friend bled for 6 months straight. Some people love the pill, some people go totally crazy.
I think what you’re doing to lose weight sounds good. Cut down on carbs, sugars, and processed foods. Cut out artificial sweeteners. Drink lots of water. Exercise if you can.

I second nuvaring. I used it and had no side effects. I put implanon in for the convenience and gained 20 pounds in 7 months. I’ve lost those 20 since I took it out in May, but couldn’t lose anything while I had it in. Like pp every bc works differently than others.
(I’m also 5’11 and experienced the same, ‘holy shit, how did the scale creep up so high?!’ moment a couple months ago!) Good luck, you’ll get there! I’ve been doing very low carb and seen awesome results.

The EXACT same thing happened to me when I went from triphasic to monophasic!! I switched back to triphasic and instantly dropped 20 of the pounds (like within a month without changing anything else!) and have now just started exercising more/eater better to get the other 10-15 pounds off.

I’m not licensed yet, still in school… but I will give you my two cents. Progesterone causes an increase in appetite … it doesn’t necessarily cause you to gain weight, just makes you more hungry. If you eat the same you won’t gain the weight. I DO NOT recommend implannon OR Depo because it is entirely progesterone. I would try a low dose triphasic (with lower progesterone part of the cycle) or the nuvaring like a few other girls have said. Nuvaring may not be covered by insurance and its 80 bucks a month if its not.
