I am in a similar boat as you except I may have a little longer to wait (through December 2013), and this is what has been working for me (in terms of preparation and getting me to focus on other things):

1) Cleaning up my finances. Pay down all my credit card bills and make a dent in student loan payments. My SO knows that due to my expensive programs, I have a lot in student loans, but I plan to have the credit cards paid down to zero when he proposes. You also want to make sure you can stand on your own two feet financially – not saying things will go south as I doubt they will, but so many women forget about this and end up “stuck.”

2) Visiting friends. Face it – when you have a wedding to plan, this will be a lot harder if not impossible to do. Organize girls night outs and the like or even have an old-fashioned just-like-in-HS slumber party! πŸ™‚

3) Self-improvement, self-improvement, self-improvement. Example: You’re not an organized person yet want to be? Start organizing your closets/bedrooms/etc. little by little. I’ve donated a ton of clothes I don’t wear/outgrew, and it feels like a huge relief. You want to brush up on reading skills? Set a goal for reading x books this year.

4) Good job on the fitness goals! Maybe learn how to cook healthy yet tasty meals (if you don’t know how to already)? Not only will you score Girlfriend points, but you will ensure that your household/family has a healthy lifestyle and save money in the process (groceries cost less than eating out all the time).

These are just a few things that you can do to get your mind off things. Hope it helped! πŸ™‚

Honestly, get off weddingbee. I love weddingbee but it was horrible for me when i was waiting. I just felt horrible seeing all these other girls proposal stories and couln’t understand why my dream wouldn’t come true.

@MsYankee:  My SO and I enjoy our time with each other. We go do LOTS of fun stuff: Bowling, watch anime, free movies (somehow that man ALWAYS wins passes to that and I can’t! LOL), swimming, baseball games, movie night at his house, etc. I am just enjoying loving him as he is, and vice versa. There’s no pressure for a proposal or marriage. Just love. πŸ™‚ I do know, he is planning to propose soon. I just pray my hair, eyebrows, and nails look halfway decent by then πŸ™‚ j/k

Some people are more obsessed with the idea of other people knowing they are engaged, than the idea of actually being in and falling in love. I don’t understand why people can’t just cherish loving their mate. So what you’ve been with him five years and he hasn’t proposed? If he hasn’t yet, his chances of changing the decision are small. But, you can still love him. Or; lets say it seems like the guy isn’t all that fancied by marriage. I think that, patience truly is the key. BE HAPPY around him and show him how much you just ENJOY his company. Try not to focus on him so hard. Pick a new hobby. Take a new class. Dress up more for yourself. Get new friends or go out with your girls more often. The more he misses you, the more he will have time to himself to think. πŸ™‚
