I am newly married and have been unemployed since april. I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT. HATE HATE HATE IT!!!! I used to LOVE going to my old job, unfortunately they had to downsize because of the weak economy. I haven’t been able to find work since. I also relocated to a much smaller city than I used to live. I have no friends here and my husband is at work all day. I literally go all day without talking to ANYONE. It is so hard to meet people here. I hate it so much – I get so frustrated I well up with tears sometimes. I feel like it is going to get harder and harder to get my career on track the longer I am unemployed and that really concerns me. AHHHH!!! I HATE THIS I miss my old life 🙁
Just needed to put that out there – thanks bees for listening!!!

Oh girl I know exactly how you feel. When my husband and I moved last year, I didn’t have a job or friends and it was horrible. Is there any way that you can volunteer to keep your skills up until you can find a new job in your field? Good luck finding something!

I know the feeling. Are there any organizations in your city that you would like to volunteer for? It’s not a paycheck, but gets you out of the house, you’re busy and meeting new people. Or maybe taking some classes at a community college?

So sorry to hear that you are going through this. I know small towns can be hard at first, but surely things will get better. Have you contemplated volunteering in the interim while you are unemployed? There must be a hospital, soup kitchen, school, senior center or someplace else nearby that would appreciate your help and it would be a great way to meet new people.
Good luck & best wishes to you! Oh, and reach out to friends & family for support via telephone. It’s not the same as face0-to-face, but it might help.

I am looking into volunteering to tutor high-school kids applying to college. Other than that – there are no professional/women’s organizations around here. I was involved in those types of organizations in my old city and I really miss it. This place is just so small…..seriously we have meet 1 other couple near our age. 🙁 I wish we could move…..

Why did you move there in the first place?

Husband found a very good job. We have been looking for a job for me in the area for months, to no avail.
