My Fiance is out of town on business and just called to say that he won’t be home until Tuesday (his original flight was tomorrow morning). To make it worse our A/C went out this morning and he doesn’t want me to do anything until he gets home. I can’t go anywhere to get cool because HIS dog doesn’t get along with other animals or people (besides my baby, which she tolerates most of the time).
It’s an old house and we have 2 window units, the bedroom one has never worked right but was ok because the big one kept it really cool. I suggested just buying a cheap small one from craigslist to survive, but he about bit my head off and it started a huge fight over finances. He also said to suck it up because it’s supposed to be cooler over the next few days…89 versus 95.
I know I’m testy because I’m HOT, but is he being ridiculous?

WOW! Thats not nice. I live in Texas where its 112 degrees, I couldnt imagine being without my AC. Everything melts or catches on fire out here lol…Hope your day gets Better!

I have no tolerance for being hot. Honestly, this is probably the wrong advice, but I would go buy a cheap one anyway! He’s not there melting with you, and therefore yes, I think he is being ridiculous!

It’s not really safe to keep a baby or a dog in that kind of heat. You might want to try talking to him again or maybe get a few fans?

I agree with PPs; I would totally buy one anyways. He’s not the one sitting at home in the extreme heat and a baby!

@Sunshine1810: lol Totally agree with you. I do not do well when I’m super hot. Especially if I was with a child and a dog! I’d be sitting in a lawn chair with a sprinkler running or I’d go buy a $20 fan and have it on full blast 24/7.
I understand finances are something to consider; but would he do the same thing if he had to wait at least three days in 85+ degree for you to come home before he could get a working AC unit?

I agree on the fan. I have a Lasko tower fan and it really is great!

I’d tell him to bite me and I’d get a cheap new window unit! He can’t expect you and the dog to burn up while he’s somewhere with air conditioning! I am assuming he has air wherever he’s staying… Sorry, but I really don’t understand why he wants you to wait to get it repaired until he gets home. The heat has been dangerous (that word was used by my meterologist the other day). It is not just uncomfortable, but very unsafe to be that hot. I am not sure if by baby you meant another animal, or an actual baby, but if you’re talking about a human baby, it is definitely not safe for him/her to be without air conditioning.

Lots of cold showers and buy a fan or two. The one we got was only $14.

thanks for the advice ladies. My mom bought me a new a/c window unit…so I have been hiding in the bedroom with the door closed since it’s the only cold room in the house.
