Hello bees. I am helping out my cousin. Her wedding date was suppose to be towards the end of the year but unfortunately we had to change the date to next month… in 3 weeks!! Yesterday we got terrible news that the prognosis for my uncle’s cancer (her father) is not looking good. We are all afraid he may not be able to make it to her original wedding date. We are in desperate need of finding a wedding dress and bridesmaids’ dresses ASAP. Anyone in the Northern California, Bay area, region have any recommendations?????? Please help!!!!

Im so sorry to hear about your uncle!! My first thought for bridesmaid dresses would be to go to a department store like Macy’s and see what they have in their formal dress section. Also don’t they have a Jessica McClintock outlet in San Fran….I live in Sac and recall going there years ago for prom dresses. As far as a wedding dress is concerned….she might have luck on Craigslist or Ebay…or possibly a local wedding dress store would allow her to buy a sample dress. Good Luck!!

- Wedding: April 2012 - St. Philip Catholic Church/Arcadia Brewing Co.
Norstrom is also a good choice all of my girls bought their dresses off the rack from department stores. With white dresses being in style for other types of events these days she might have some luck too.
So sorry to hear about your uncle!
Best of luck!

Try Glamour Closet in San Francisco for a wedding dress, they sell designer sample dresses so you can take it home with you that day. Also, Blossom’s in Pleasanton, where I got my dress, was willing to sell their samples. Many local bridal stores will have a small selection of samples that they are selling as is. I would just start going around to local shops to see what samples they have on sale.
Bridesmaids dresses, try to find something off the rack at Nordstrom, Macy’s, Ann Taylor, or JCrew.
Craigslist, Once Wed, eBay, and PreOwnedWeddingDresses are good online resellers.

I too am sorry about your situation. I live in hayward and got my sisters bm dresses at macys. If they dont happen to have it in that size they can look up to see which store in the bay area DOES have it and you can pick it up. san fran union square has the biggest selection of evening wear dresses. I would start there. if you are lucky to buy a wedding dress off the rack I would go to davids bridal. there is a store in daly city I think and Milpitas. Again if you need it in a different size they can see if the other store has it. If they have to order it it takes at least a month. Though, I found a very nice white gown at macys that i would have used for my wedding if it was less formal. When I bought it everyone said it looked like a wedding dress ( I wore it to a black and white ball fundraiser). It can be done, dont worry! As i recall, the Jessica McClintoc store in Sf was much smaller than macys, I remember thinking macys had a better selection. good luck to you!

Definitely try Nordstroms. You should be able to find all your dresses at a big retailer!

Try david’s bridal…I think they are out on the west coast. We had to get a dress for my cousin’s wedding and we got it that same day. Good luck!

@Cjarv: Oh, I am sorry for your cousin, and for your uncle/her dad. Is there a particular gown that she’s been interested in that we could help her find? Do you know her size? We changed my daughter’s wedding date, due to my mom’s ill health. My daughter had to choose another gown due to the season, and she found “the one” at Davids Bridal. We bought it off the rack and had it altered by a local seamstress. She did it in 1 week.

@creativeplannertobee: At this point, my cousin is open to any type of dress. She is a size 14.
Thanks for all the recommendations. I will check Macys, Nordies, J.McC. We were all fitted at David’s Bridal already but when we called them, they said they wouldnt be able to get the dresses on time. bummer!

They are so sweet, professional & accommodating. They can do alterations in as fast as 2 days if need be & are a full service shop. Definitely recommend:
