Okay – so I’m now working in a research lab. I love my new job and am so glad to be out of cubicle land.
But I am having to change from wearing heels to work to wearing closed toed flats. I don’t really own much in the way of acceptable shoes (other than my tennis shoes that I’ve been wearing a lot). I want shoes wear I will be comfortable being on my feet for good chunks of the day and/or walking accross campus for lunch or something. But I also want them to look cute.
So I’ve found some options I like but I wanted to come to the Hive for your opinions (since I can’t buy all of them and have to narrow it down some). Which do you like best? Are there any that you hate? Why? Are there any that you think look too “old” for a 24 year old to wear?
ETA: I’ll probably ultimately buy a couple of these options so you don’t have to narrow it down to just one! 🙂

They’re all cute! Number 4 is a lot more casual than the others, but whether that’s good or bad depends on your own style and work environment. For my own style, I like 1 and 3.

I’m not a fan of #2 & #3, but I like the rest of them. Is there a color you wear most often? I wear black pants a lot so #1 would be great for me. My favorite pair that you posted are #5 🙂

I like #1 the best! I wear flats all the time, not because I can’t wear heels but because I don’t like heels. #1 look like something I would buy.

@mightywombat: Yeah – #4 are probably the first ones I’d cut because they are so much more casual.
@futureMrsCPT: I work in a university research lab so I wear jeans every day. My tops span about every color of the rainbow though. 🙂

I like the color and fabric of number 1 but with summer coming up I would probably go with number 5

I have a pair of Ecco brand shoes that look exactly like #5 and I love them. Great for walking and standing all day. Breaking them in was a bit hard but I love them now!
And #1 is good too, you can’t beat a black-ish flat for versatility!

#1 definitely looks like something I’d go for. It’d go with a lot of stuff I wear to the office anyway.

I think I like #2 best. the metallic color makes them just a little more fun than the standard office shoe. Plus I’m not a huge fan of the large buckles on all the other ones, (but that’s clearly a personal choice).

@Meowkers: The metallic color was what I really like about those too.
I’ve already bought these shoes for work so I certainly don’t mind the large buckle look. 🙂

For me, the big thing is how they feel. I have low arches so most flats hurt like a beast. They are all pretty cute though.

I think that #1 is indeed too “old-looking” (I just turned 25 and love shoes. . . but I’m picky and do tend to notice what looks certain sorts of people tend to wear).
I really like #s 2, 3, 6, and 7. My favorite ones are #6– so cute! Also, I love the bronzy metallic color of #3– actually maybe those are my favorite. . .
If you stand up a lot, however, I would be concerned that these types of shoes don’t offer enough foot support, and after standing for a while your feet, knees, and back might begin to hurt. I’ve done various standing-up jobs and have experimented with many kinds of shoes, but the ones I find to be best for being on my feet a lot are, of course, Danskos. They have some darn cute styles, too– mary janes and sandals included! And I do like the traditional clog look myself, but I’m guessing you might prefer something more dressy. Take a look at online shoe places and see what some of the styles are, if you’re curious. 🙂

I’ll second Dansko’s- they were all I could wear when I was in retail on my feet on hard unforgiving floors all day. They suck to break in, but once your feet get used to them you won’t want to wear anything else. And they’re great for labs because spills won’t immediately eat through them like most canvas or faux leather shoes, and they’re pretty sharps-resistant. I just bought longer pants and honestly, they just looked like brown or black shoes.

I like #2 🙂 I think 4 looks a bit preteen.

I really like 1, 5, 6, 7 the most. Would be even better personally for me if they were in black. I need a new pair of work shoes and like flats better then heels.
