@MissXray:  It doesn’t sound like the chairs will match the rest of the wedding HOWEVER, do you think people will truly notice?  Will they say “MWeidt’s wedding was amazing, except for the chairs in the dining area.”  Doubtful…..I say use that $1000 somewhere else.

Have you considered chair covers for the ones you don’t like? Sounds like you’re getting ripped off on chair rental, unless you’re looking at the nicest ones.

I’ve never remembered a wedding chair unless it was horribly uncomfortable (ahem, chiavari). So I say save your money and go with the chairs that are already there. They are almost never as bad as you think they are. As brides we just overanalyse. Your guests will not care.

We splurged on chairs and I think it was worth it, but we had them through the reception. Have you priced out chair covers? I would look at every other option first because it’s money you could use somewhere else. I would have had a harder time justifying the expense if we were not in them the whole night.

That seems like an insane price for chairs.  I am using cushioned wooden chairs and they will cost $2.75 a piece to rent

Have you looked into chair covers? They might be cheaper and still give your perfect side peace of mind.

I notice when there are chiavari chairs.  I don’t really take note of anything else.

A chair cover, like the others are suggestion, makes sense to me.

I say YES. My Fiance sister got married a few weeks ago and the chairs were horrible – I noticed. Not sure if anyone else noticed, but I’m making sure I have nice chairs now at my wedding. haha

If the chair fit with the setting, no one will notice.  But if they’re as ghastly as you say, people will.  People always remember the things that stand out good, bad and ugly! I agree with PP and say chair covers if you can get them.

I think those Chiavari chairs look like cheap bamboo chairs from the ’80’s. They’re not at all comfortable either. That’s what I would notice, comfort. Otherwise, I couldn’t tell you what the chair I’m sitting on right now looks like.

@HeathenSwan:  Same. I find them uncomfy.

I never notice chairs unless they are missing.. I attened two where the wedding and reception is a “classy” cocktail reception where you stand all night. At that point any chair is nice 🙂 Save $1000 for something more important
