- Wedding: July 2012
Fiance and I bought a condo a year and a half ago. We reno’d it completely and put a lot of work into it. Unfortunately we are becoming house poor and we’re starting to drown in debt. With a wedding coming up this summer, we don’t want to be in this position anymore.
We have a mutual best friend here named Adam who we spend a lot of time with. Adam owns his own house just outside of the downtown core and lives there himself. We have decided to rent a room from him for $500 a month (for the both of us) and give up our $1600 a month condo that we already found tenants for. This will be savings of over $1000 a month, which would help us pay down our debt in no time and help pay for our schooling next year.
The moving date is getting closer (this weekend) and I’m panicking. Fiance and I have always lived alone and never with a roommate. I know this is what we have to do to save money and we can’t imagine a better roommate but I can’t help but feel devestated to be leaving our “first” home that we put a lot of work into. I’m also worried about the lost privacy and all of what comes with living with a roommate.
We are going from living together for 3 years, moving in with roommates and then getting married… which seems out of order to me.
I guess I just need some encouragement that it’s going to be ok, or hear from other people who have had similar situations. How did you deal?
