I am a really thorough researcher with all vendors, so online reviews do hold weight with me. We booked our venue months ago because we were impressed on our visit, but negative reviews online have me worried.
On Wedding Wire, our reception hall has 127 reviews and a score of 4.7/5. sounds okay but there are still more than a few negative ones about bad food and service.
I was already stressing because our venue does multiple weddings at a time and I HATE that, and now the other negative reviews, even if it’s the minority, have me stressing more.
Did any of your venues have bad reviews? How do you keep it from bothering you?

Just remember that all reviews are subjective. In my experience, people that have something negative to say tend to want to say them more often than people who have positive things to say.

@SadMrsToBe: I wouldn’t worry about it. If you both loved the venue and saw yourselves getting married there, and every interaction you’ve had with the staff has been good, then it’s all going to work out fine.

I am totally relient on reviews online – I drive my Fiance nuts. So i know how hard it is but I would keep in mind that people also complain about very silly things and let their opinons sway them heavily. I have seen multiple wedding vendor reviews where they give them 4 stars but RAVE about the service (what sense does that make??) if you love it then dont worry – whats right for one person isnt for others 🙂

I wouldn’t worry if it’s just a handful of reviews. There are crazy Bridezillas and nothing pleases them so it wouldn’t surprise me if these are the same people writing these reviews. However, if even the good reviews mention the same things as being mediocre, then I would be concerned. For example, if they said they loved the venue and blah blah blah. The only thing worth improving is the food and this is across most reviews, then I would be concerned.
It’s like with Tripadvisor. I’ve been to hotels that I’ve loved and they’ve received terrible reviews from a handful of people (among a ton of great ones). It happens.

Please keep in mind that everywhere you go online has negative and postive reviews. If your experience has been good then dont worry!!!

Don’t worry about it, a previous poster said something that rings very true: negative people are more likely to review online. I had a momentary meltdown myself when I saw our venue had a negative review (it’s new, so there were only FOUR reviews there), but the person who posted the negativity was unable to spell and just seemed realllllllly angry about little things. In my opinion, it comes down to what YOU make of it. Be positive, and you’ll have a positive experience. =)

A 4.7/5? If you got a 94% grade on a test in school would you say you did a bad job? Please point me to one vendor with 100+ reviews with a 5/5 rating. I don’t think they exist! The venue may have had one employee have a bad day for one wedding, but the odds are completely in your favor. It sounds like the venue handles itself well generally, and don’t forget there are always bridezillas who will never be satisfied.
