I assumed the service fee WAS gratuity so now I’m concerned! Following to see what others say. Our service charge is 22% which I though was on the higher end but still appropriate (if it included gratuity!)

Service fees may include gratuity, but not all do.  About half the venues I visited included a gratuity for servers in the service fee, but you were still expected to tip the bartender, day of coordinator (if the venue came with one), and a few other people… But you should always ask just to be sure!

I don’t have experience negotiating this fee, but since I did notice that it varied quite a bit venue to venue, it played a role in my venue choice and I chose one with no service fee.  They probably just rolled the fee into the price of everything to begin with, which to me is at least honest advertisement, but they still ended up a bargain, so I signed on the line.

Just my experience…
