Has anyone had any success when it comes to negotiating with venues?
We have looked at two that we like, one is $2000 more for their food/drink minimums and has additional fees for ceiling draping and other decor, whereas the other venue include this all.
Is it inappropriate to try to negotiate with a venue? I prefer the one that is more expensive… but with all of the “extra” fees – it becomes significantly more money. Is it wrong of me to ask them to lower/waive some fees?

Not at all. Its how you go about the negoiating. Maybe the price won’t change but youll get some extras (food/sculptures/etc).

@DDG84: Good to know! I did express our interest in their venue, but did tell them the other venue we are also really liking is offering a lot more “perks” for no extra cost. The more expensive venue is charging almost $1000 for ceiling draping, I just cannot fathom paying that, especially when the other place offers it at no extra charge!
I did ask them if they could take our budget into consideration and include the ceiling draping… I guess we’ll see! Haha! 🙂 No harm in asking, I suppose, the worst they can say is no! 😉
