OMG, I am in tears right now. We live in a small town on a quiet street with gorgeous property behind us owned by my neighbor, Behind my flat but pretty yard is a wide open mowed field with a huge willow tree in the middle of it owned by same neighbor. Beyond that are his woods, with a beautiful path through it that he mows weekly and is covered in a beautiful canopy of trees. When we decided to get married at home, we asked if we could put the tent in the field right past our property line as there is a flat area there before the field dips that is exactly the right size and he said of course. I also asked if we could do our pictures ion the path in the woods and they said, absolutely! We have lived peacefully side by side for years. I wouldn’t say we are friends but certainly friendly neighbors.
Fast forward to 5 weeks ago, and he deicdes he doesn’t like the shed in his backyard and builds a new one smack in the middle of the flat spot behind my property line where the tent was going to go. Fine- I can fit the tent in my yard, it will just take up all the space and will really crowd it close to the house. Then he deicdes last week to tear down the old shed last week leaving a big mess in his backyard, but says , “Don’t worry. I’m having it bulldozed and putting in a garden.” There is just enough room left on the flat spot behind my property line to have the chairs for the wedding with the open aisle leading toward the willow tree. Tell him we’d like to have the chairs here for the service (20 minutes) and then we’ll pull them back to the tent. He and his wife say, “Great! That will be beautiful!” Today-5 days before the wedding- a bulldozer and bobcat come in at dinner tine, start ripping apart his yard and driving for the last 5 hours across the field, in front of the willow, and up the path into the woods where our pictures are supposed to be!
I am beside myself! We asked their permission, they gave it, and yet every decision they have made has actively run contrary to the plan! Thi s garden project couldn’t have waited one week?! And the best part is he thinks he is getting it done for us! You know- in time for our wedding! There isn’t a chance in hell that the grass will grow back, and if I even attempt these pictures my dress will be destroyed!
I guess this matters really to nobody but me, but it does matter to me. That area has been perfect, natural, and pristine for all of the time we have lived there until the last month. And I guess if we hadn’t asked before making decisions, and been given the enthusiastic go ahead, I couldn’t complain. But I am just beside myse;lf. Everytime I look out the window, the tears come…
That’s it. I don’t need advice, really, just needed to get it off my chest. I am sad today. Boo….:(
