Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone has every been to sci-fi/comic convention and would be able to give me some tips! I’m going to my first one next year and am trying to make sure I plan it as well as possible. Is it worth spending the extra money to be at a hotel super close to the con? Or is it ok staying at one further away that has a shuttle available to it? Is there anything that I should absolutely NOT do unless I want to look like a total noob?
Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

*ahem* not that I would know anything about this but….
Try to stay in the hotel it is being hosted at (or one associated with it if it’s ina convention center) so you can really enjoy the experience.
The only thing that you shouldn’t do is bother someone who doesn’t want to be or mispronounce names. 😀 Have fun!

Definitely stay at the hotel the con is at if possible. Some of my best times at cons were the “after” or “unofficial” stuff happening in the hotel during and after con times. It’s an easy place to make friends since there SO many people with similar interests.
Don’t try to pretend or act like you know about something you don’t. Not saying you will but I’ve seen it happen (mostly with women) and it’s the quickest way to get dismissed as someones tagalong (even if there isn’t anyone with you) lol. There’s SO much stuff out there no one can know everything. So even if you’re just getting into things and don’t know much 99% won’t care, in fact they’ll enjoy introducing you to new stuff (unless you haven’t heard of Star Wars or something ).
Have loads of fun and be safe!

I went to a Nintendo Zelda concert, which was like a sci-fi convention. I don’t think I’ve had that many male admirers in my entire life. Told the Fiance I’m trading him in for a nerd. lol. But seriously, it seemed to me like a lot of these folks really know their stuff (the conversations I overheard in the restroom were so puzzling to me I thought they were speaking in a different language), so brush up on whatever it is you’re a fan of.

i haven’t been to a scifi one, but i’ve been to my share of harry potter conventions.
if the convention is at a hotel, stay that THAT hote. otherwise, go online and find out where most of the attendees are staying because there are bound to be hotel parties. stay there so you don’t miss out on the experiences.

yay! thanks for all the input! i’m definitely more of whendonverse/star trek nerd so i’m super excited to go and experience everything. the hotels that are hosting it are currently sold out so i’m trying to decide between some of the overflow hotels based on how close they are.
