@gswelec:  Sounds like you picked a great size! As for the proposal, I won’t be much help because DH proposed to me on a snowboarding trip…It was barely snowing and we were on a walk and he waited till we were on a bridge over looking the Animas River. I thought it was just perfect…simple and romantic.

Does she like big “to-dos”? Would she want it in front of a whole bunch of people? Or is she more private?

That sounds like a good size for someone who has small hands.  My hands are small (but my fingers are kinda chunky), and I have a ring size 4.5.  I have a bit over a carat, but people always make remarks that they think it’s “huge”.  I think that’s just in relation to my finger.  So if your Girlfriend has said she’s not into that, then you did the right thing.  Plus, now with my wedding band, the whole thing looks even bigger.  The same will happen with your GF’s rings.

Congratulations on choosing the stone and good luck with planning the proposal! It sounds like you just need to choose which idea you want to go with… I know she’s going to love it!

If I were you I wouldn’t worry too much about how close it is to holiday season. I’ve never really had the thought that if I get a proposal right before a holiday that somehow that holiday gift afterwards would have to be extra big…firstly, it’s not in the same class as a gift, it’s a symbol of your future together… a major mutual milestone, “joining households” and all that Smile. Also, if anything I would think the ring (and upcoming wedding) being costly might make the next little while a particularly austere time… not that I would mind at all! And yes, being newly engaged for a holiday would make that holiday extra joyful!

She is really going to appreciate how much thought you put into everything and remember it always! Smile

Wow, gorgeous ring, congrats!

My husband proposed to me in one of our spare bedrooms, right when I got home from work.  He asked me to get a coupon off the printer – where I found some roses, then him on one knee.  It was fairly spontaneous (he told me he had decided that afternoon to do it), and so perfect.

My point – don’t stress too much about it being perfect, as long as you end up with a Yes!  You’ll always remember it fondly, no matter what happens.  And the holidays will be all kind of engaged bliss and “When are you getting married?  Are you pregnant?  Am I invited?”  😉
