- Wedding: October 2010
I’m Epscopalian and have been attending the same church for about six years now. Our rector (priest) who I had known since I started attending the church left last summer. 🙁 I was really good friends with the old rector, we got along great, and I even told him when he left that I had always wanted him to perform my wedding – although I was not even close to being engaged!
The church is now looking for a new rector. In the meantime, we have an interim rector. He’s older and pretty conservative for an Episcopalian priest. Fiance and I met with him a few weeks ago for the first time. He’s a nice enough guy, but made me kind of nervous for some reason and I didn’t like it when he chastised me about not coming to church often enough. (I already knew that!)
I have another meeting with him tomorrow to pin down ceremony details. But he called me today, looking for the information I was planning on giving him tomorrow! I pointed out that we are meeting tomorrow, but he still seemed kind of put out.
So now I have a knot in my stomach about the meeting tomorrow. I’m so worried and I don’t really know why. Our wedding is already scheduled, it’s not like he can take it away from us. And there is a distinct possibility that the church will have a new rector by the time my wedding rolls around, so I might not even have to deal with him much longer. My number one requirement for the wedding was that we get married at my church, I don’t want to go anywhere else.
I guess I just needed to vent a little bit! Has anyone else been nervous around their priest/officiant? Do you think this will get better the more times I meet with him or see him at church?
