I hadn’t planned on trying on dresses until September since I have not had the time to lose the weight I would like. I’m going because the bridal shop that I am going to has the Maggie Sottero Miri dress in that I’m absolutely in love with. I’m so nervous that it will look awful on me since it is several sizes to small and I won’t be able to fit in it. I’m a street size 14/16 and the dress is a sample size 10. Do I have any hope at all of fitting in the dress? Or should I not try on the dress until I’ve lost weight? Any other tips of trying on dresses for the first time are most welcomed.

I’m in exactly the same boat. I just can’t bring myself to try any dresses on until I have lost some more weight. I was a bridesmaid last year and found that because a lot of the dresses were sized a lot smaller than the stated size, it just depressed me greatly. I think you can get in to the dress and they either hold the back or pin it to give you an idea.
I know a lot of stores have larger samples, have you tried calling round to see if anywhere has it in a 14? You’ve got over a year to the wedding so have you got any sort of plan in place to lose the weight in any set time? It’s not long until September so perhaps you could have an intensive blast and try then?
I’m probably not the best person to help with this, but I can say I totally get where you are coming from! I plan on waiting until November-ish (Maybe later) as I want the day I try dresses on to be a happy one, not one where I feel terrible. That’s just me though, as I know I’d really struggle if things didn’t fit or I felt insecure. If you have the confidence to go now and envisage what you’ll look like then go for it. Equally, if you are happy with the size you are now (And any loss would be a benefit) then go now! There are many, many beautiful brides at a size 14/16 (And far beyond) so it really rests with how you feel about it!
Sorry for the ramble, good luck!

So I had a really great time trying on dresses. I was actually able to get the Maggie Sottero dress on and it turned out to be THE dress! I knew as soon as I tried it on. I was glad that i didn’t wait to try on dresses because it could take up to 10 months to get the dress! I couldn’t be happier with the dress! Now I can’t wait until I get to put it on again.
