- Wedding: June 2015
So bees – i attended a beautiful wedding of a family friend a few months ago. this is a girl that i’m not super close to, but we grew up together, i’m very close to her brother and our families are extremely close – her parents are like a second family to me and are my parents best friends. she is a few years older than i am, which is why we’re not closer – she’s lovely and her wedding was amazing.
Her wedding was absolutely gorgeous. They had a ceremony at the local church, and the reception on the lawn at her parent’s beautiful home. Huge tent, wonderful food etc. Their favours were little jams that her mother made (it’s her specialty – she’s famous for it!), and their first dance was a beautiful bon iver song.
after we got engaged (about 3 months after their wedding) the family kindly offered that we could get married at their home (they back onto a greenbelt, more room), offered to loan us vases, candle holders, etc that had been used at the wedding. Offered to send over the rental company’s info, etc, etc, etc. We declined everything except the mum also offered to make us the jam favours which we accepted because it was so generous of her to offer and it seemed that she really wanted to be involved, we love jam, edible favours are awesome. we will also make use of some vases etc. we were invited to see their wedding photos at christmastime which are UNBELIEVEABLE and we booked the same photography duo.
so here’s the potential problem –
we have very similar taste and i’m concerned it will have a similar feel. We’re having our ceremony and reception on the lawn of my aunt’s country property, having a big tent, similar style meal, flowers will be similar (love the palette of cream, pink and greenery), we have the same photographer, will have the same favours…and um…..we look somewhat similar too except she’s about 6 inches taller. i have a different idea for my dress thank goodness – if she’d worn a mermaid i’d be in big trouble! 🙂
i wear my hair in a messy bun constantly and have always wanted my hair in a polished, high bun (think hilary duff) for my wedding, which is what this bride had and it was PERFECT! her mother also gave me the information for the makeup artist and hairstylist, who i would love to use.
their first dance was to bon iver, a song that my fiancé and i listen to alot and love – the other day he said he’d like that song for our first dance, but there’s just no way we can do that, and he understands.
there won’t be that many people at my wedding who would have been to hers (maybe 12 – 15?) but i don’t want her to be wierded out at all – which was one of the reasons we declined to have it on their property etc. i don’t think she will be, she’s very level headed and sweet and by my wedding hers will have been nearly 2 years prior.
so – am i nuts? am i worrying too much? did anyone else have similarities between their weddings and friends weddings?
