I’m not trying to be rude, honestly I’m not. Last year I was a bridesmaid in my best friends wedding. Her maid of honor (who she has known since the beginning of time) did nothing for her and I found myself in the unofficial role of Maid/Matron of Honor. Of course I never minded because this is my best friend! I spent countless hours going over, planning, calling, picking up, making anything and everything you can think of, while having a good time always. Here’s the issue I am having. On the night of the rehearsal dinner I was given a "fake present" in front of everyone knowing that was not my real present. The bride made sure to tell me 800 times before and after the gift giving night that my gift was being ordered, but she did not want to give me such a huge gift in front of everyone else so she gave me a fake gift instead. Basically, because I did so much for her and her family and for the wonderful wedding I was going to get a "better" gift than the other girls were going to get and she did not want to hurt their feelings. I felt so wonderful knowing that all of my time and money (I threw the engagement party, bridal shower, bacholorette party, helped make the decorations and favors for the wedding, gave AMAZING gifts for all the parties and even spent (up to the last minute before the ceremony) hot gluing crystals to the veil) were well appreciated and noticed. To this day, a year and a half later, I have not seen any sort of gift. She has mentioned it a few times, but nothing ever has come of it. I feel like I have been taken advantage of in a real bad way. I’m not asking for a gift, really I’m not, I just feel like after everything I did and being promised at least a small little trinket, I should get it. Should I bring this up to her in some way or just let it go and know that I did a good deed for someone. Added note…She was my Maid/Matron of Honor a few years before this and I not only bought her dress…but her shoes, jewerly and a nice little gift. Plus, I am a single, divorced mother and full time student with a part time job. Sorry if this sounds like I am being a spoiled brat, I just feel used at this point.
