My Fiance’ and I are planning on having our engagement pictures done in September (SUPER EXCITED). I have never had any professional pictures done before, I’m not very confident in the way I look (I’m around 170-I’m dieting right now but I gained 20 pounds since last year) and I’m a little nervous about the pictures.
Any tips out there for how to feel more confident and how to act during the engagement pictures?

I just had my e-pics on Saturday, and I felt just like you do. I’m also horribly un-photogenic. I showed my photog my new license pic for an example of what NOT to make me look like, and he was like “oh, but you don’t look like that any more.” Which made me LOL, because the pic was taken last week.
Anyways, here are my suggestions:
1. Buy an outfit that makes you feel awesome. Or multiples, if you want to do changes. Personally, I found one dress and didn’t want to deal with the hassle of trying to coordinate multiple outfits for me and Fiance and finding things I loved as much (plus spending the money.)
2. Get your hair professionally. I went to my favorite stylist on Friday and had her do a blowout for me, and she’s so good it looked great the next day. It was super hot and humid but my hair didn’t show it at all (which it would if I tried to style it).
3. Get your make up done professionally, or if you can’t then buy high quality stuff and watch a bunch of youtube videos on how to apply makeup. My session started early in the morning and I couldn’t get mine done professionally. But I did start watching videos on youtube and made a few trips to Sephora, and the day of I think my makeup looked pretty awesome. The photog’s wife even thought I’d gotten professionally done.
4. Relax and have fun. If you feel awkward, it’ll show. Just concentrate on your Fiance while the pics are being taken. Make each other laugh, or just sit together and think about how much you love him and how nice it is to have some time to just concentrate on each other. Fiance and I actually had an amazing time during the shoot and felt like we were really having “us” time. We got to walk around together all day, hug and kiss a lot, and basically enjoy each other, which we don’t always take the time for.
