@almostmay:  Whoa, cool. Glad it went well! I’m interested in that cream your dermatologist gave you! were there any over-the-counter type products?? 😛

@almostmay:  I got the laser treatment for my underarms and legs. It was painful, but SO worth it.

I do laser on my underarms and as long as I use numbing cream I don’t feel anything.  I can’t imagine the threading, you are tough.

Yikes! You are brave cookie! I didn’t know underarms could be threaded (do you have to let the hair grow a certain length first?). I’m afraid to even get my upper lip done. The lady who threads my eyebrows calls me “Crocodile Tears” because I can never hold back during the process.

@BrideNH:  the skin is held taught and they use a string (I don’t know if it’s coated in something sticky) which they roll across the skin and it pulls the hairs out with it. It takes longer than waxing because they have to go over the same area more than once, but it’s less damaging to the skin because there is no heat involved. It doesn’t feel too pleasant. I’ve seen people get their entire faces done at the salon I go to (like to get rid of every bit of peach fuzz on their face) and they come out of there so red and puffy.

I think I would have died of pain!!!  I am a wuss though – very sensitive skin.  I’ve had my eyebrows threaded and it was OK, but waxing is much less painful for me because it’s just one yank.  I really want to do laser!

Worked in the laser industry for a long time (was the manager of a clinic with thousands of clients) … Go with an alexandrite laser if you have light skin and dark hair.  People with very dark african america skin and dark hair need to go with the YAG laser… other wise alexandrite is your way to go.  A few treatments can lighten up the hair and we always said 6 treatments result in 90 percent or greater hair reduction.  Laser is quick, and fairly painless.  Alsoyou will be hair free between scheduled treatments, and each time hair grows back fewer finer and lighter till the 90% reduction.  Afterwards you may need a touch up once a year for a few stray hairs only.  I did my underarms, legs, and lip.  Love it!  It does sting a bit but is over quick and the Candela gentlelase (one we used) has a built in coolant.  Make sure you find a reputable place.  I wouldnt go with IPL personally as its just not enough energy, from what I have seen, to do an effective job.
