@oneofthesethings:  You can also get topical numbing agents to take the edge off.  We always used Zcaine (in the laser business) and the clients really liked that.  The men were usually the worst, so we would sell a lot of it to them!  You don’t need a prescription for that, but if you need something with a little more lidocaine, you can get a script from your dr.   I never did waxing, but clients always said if you can handle waxing, you can do laser, because they thought it was way better and less painful.

@almostmay:  We always said that if you have difference in color between your hair color and skin color… ie. the hair is darker, you will want an alexandrite laser.  BUT find a reputable business, that has good reviews, etc.  Olive skin tones, those that pull color easily from the sun, tan easily, etc. are at a higher risk if hypo and hyperpigmentation with laser.  These pigmentation issues are not permanent, but you do want to knwo your risk factors, and ways to prevent it.  When you have laser treatments… you really need to be diligent with the sun.  No major sun exposure for 4 weeks pre and post treatment and if you are in the sun SPF 30 or higher applied very diligently!  Laser treatments are not something you want to do if your vaca to the beach is coming up soon!  (Laser treatments work by the laser seeking the pigment in the hair follicle. so as long as the laser can see the melanin in the hair follicle it can be treated with an alexandrite)  Yag lasers were developed to treat the darkest african american skin tones (Skin type 6)

I did laser and it’s amazing!  Highly recommend it.  I can’t believe you threaded your underarm – I only thread my eyebrows (can’t do wax), but before I lasered, I swore by waxing.
