I posted this as a comment on another feed, and thought I might toss it out to the general public for opinions and/or sharing information.
I don’t know if y’all have ever heard of RISUG, or the working brandname “Vasalgel” but DO SOME RESEARCH! Supposedly its a form of bc that’s been under development in India for decades and is jsut now getting rolling here with testing in the US.
Basically, a gel-like substance is injected to the fella’s vas deferens (sperm chute) (under an anethetic of course) that serves as a filter/shredder. The sperm are caught or broken up as they pass through the gel, but it allows… uh… everything else? to pass normally, so there’s no clogging or discomfort.
So far the tests have been done on rabbits in the US and full-on human studies in India, both with fantastic results, and any failures seem due only to improper insertion of the gel. AND its completely reversible. One other injection of saline (I think?) flushes the VasalGel out with no impact to fertility.
OBVIOUSLY I’m pretty psyched about this new method, as is Fiance. Optimum convenience and comfort all around. I’m not wild about my current BC and keeping a close eye on VasalGel development on Facebook. How revolutionary… Putting birth control responsibility on the guy! How bout it! (I have also seen some mentions of developing something like this for women to kill off eggs as they pass, but the focus seems to be on male applications.)
The Pegasus Foundation I believe is heading up research stateside, and needs funding for research, and they’re expecting to get a lot of flack from BC companies soon because the gel is so inexpensive, this new method could mess up their market… But hey, no problems for us consumers 🙂
I haven’t seen any other discussions about this since I’ve been on WB and wanted to share!! Whatcha think?
