How many of you gals have changed or upgraded your engagement ring? Did you receive any negative opinions?
Here is my story: My husband and I got engaged when we were in our mid twenties. He didn’t know anything about diamonds and neither did I. He proposed with a pretty champagne diamond (he bought online and didn’t realize what colour it was) I was thrilled with the proposal but not with the ring. At the time I thought diamonds were suppose to be white and clear etc. So we didn’t tell anyone and contacted the vendor and changed the diamond. Eventually we switched to a different setting as well. Fast forward 9 years later. We’re older and my tastes have changed. I’ve also felt a little guilty about changing my original engagement ring, and because it’s not “original” I also don’t feel the same sentimental attachment to it that I have for my wedding ring (never changed). I recently found a gorgeous champagne (yes, champagne!) Art Deco ring that reflects my style now. I guess I’m wondering I’m a I terrible for switching my “engagement” ring? What do I say to nay sayers? Oh, and hubby is completely on board so no issues there.
Thanks for listening!

As long as you and your husband are on board, it’s not really anyone else’s business. People upgrade all the time for various reasons – they want to, an anniversary, etc.
Go for it. And post pictures when you have your new ring.

For me and engagement ring is a one time shot. I’m very sentimental so I have my forever ring. If you want to change it go for it! Be sure to post pics!!!!

I definitely did after two kids and I love my upgrade. I don’t plan on changing it again, I love the upgrade though. We did the upgrade after about 4 years. I loved my original set though. but the stone was not a forever stone and was already showing signs of wear after a while. Ignore my husband’s foot lol

I got a new ring after ten years of marriage. I still plan on getting one or two more 😂 I just love rings though! Some women have fancy necklaces or earrings but I prefer rings. There’s nothing wrong with adding more or replacing jewelery to your collection! You’re certainly not the first woman to desire fine jewelery 🙂 as for the sentimental aspect…that’s why I never got rid of my original set. I still wear it a few days every two weeks or so, because while I adore my newer one, I still miss my original when I’m not wearing it.

I also got a new ring after 10 years of marriage. I never loved my original diamond for the same reasons you stated (we were clueless and went for size above all else), but after I started popping out kids I really only wore my band anyway. So when year 10 rolled around and my kids were older, we decided it was time.
I ended up not loving that ring either lol. I still have it, but was since gifted my grandmother’s ring and wear that most days now. I also have a moissanite coming – if I love it, I’ll make that into a ring too. I still have my original and I plan to set it into a pendant one day. The bottom line is if you and your husband are on board, no one else’s opinion matters and you don’t need to explain yourself to anyone. If you feel you have to, just say it’s an anniversary gift or something.

I have multiple sets. Don’t feel guilty. Your clothes, your hair, your style changes all the time. Don’t give it another thought and ENJOY the process! Have fun finding your new precious 😀

Lots of people upgrade, I think go for it if you and DH are on board, I’m excessively sentimental so I feel like we have to get it right the first time but honestly you need to feel happy when you look down at your ring.

janedoe27 : Thanks for responding! I definitely wouldn’t change my band but since I don’t have the same attachment to the e ring I think I’m going to go for it!
