Wear your dress. You picked it for a reason!

Wear your grandmother's dress. This is too good of an opportunity to pass up!

@Keiramenna:  That is GORGEOUS. I was acostumer for a lot of years, and it always worries me when people “update” vintage dresses. But your seamstress is CLEARLY exceptional–she kept the character 100% in-tact!

    You look AMAZING!

It seems you have already made your decision, and I just want to say that your grandmother’s dress is amazing.  I loooove that it has been altered and worn by her sister, and will now be done so by you.  Few people talk about really holding on to a dress for generations, and I am so glad your family did.

My great grandmother made my grandmother’s dress as well.  My mom did not wear it (she eloped in a minidress!),  but had professional photos done with my dad after the elopement.  Then, my grandmother threw it in the washing machine.  It shrank from a 12-14 to a 0-2.  Everything is intact and beautiful, just ridiculously tiny.

My mother saved her elopement mini dress (white polyester lace with bell sleeves), and my sister wore it for her 10 yr anniversary photos with her husband and kids.  I am hoping to be able to wear it for my engagement photos (eventually).

If you end up keeping your new dress, consider using it for a vow renewal in the future.

Congratulations, and post more photos as the alterations continue!

I love the idea of wearing your grandmother’s dress but seeing as she was hesitant to give it to you, I would probably lean more towards the new dress.
