Hi everyone… my name is Lauren and I am 22 years old. I found this website when I googled blue diamonds and I have become obsessed with it over the past few days. I have recently discovered the blue diamond craze and have fallen almost as deeply in love with them as I am with my boyfriend. I had googled blue diamonds before and found some really nice ones. I even found a steal on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0057EY7L2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=A2WA13QTJYT68D
BUT, my friends think that a it is just a phase and it is something I will eventually fall out of love with. One friend told me it wouldn’t match my outfits since I wear hot pink often. Even my boyfriend said that he doesn’t want to get me a blue diamond. So I am torn… do I stop oogling the amazing sparkly blue objects of my obsession and return to the ever traditional white diamond or do I hold my ground and continue to drop hints.
Here is the link to the white diamond ring I wanted prior to finding the blue diamond on amazon. http://www.pompeii3.com/p-2499-140ct-diamond-halo-engagement-ring-14k-white-gold.aspx
Also, I apologize for this being so long, but my boyfriend and I went into his jeweler today to get prices to reset my mother’s engagement ring (for mom’s day and her b-day present) and while the jeweler was looking up pricing I walked over to the engagement rings and sitting in the center of the case sparkiing in all its glory was the most amazing 1ct blue diamond. I got goose bumps and my heart started racing. It was the most perfect ring I ever saw. I even got to try it on for a second. I told him it was the one and I know that right now we cannot afford it (it was more than $4000), but that i loved it and that was exactly like what I wanted.
Do I abandon my obsession and return to the traditional side or should I continue to try to convince my boyfriend that the blue diamond is what I want to see when he chooses to propose (even if it isnt exactly the one we saw in the store but something similar)?? HELP!!

I think its hard to say, because everyone is an individual. For my future engagement ring I originally wanted a gem, but my boyfriend wanted to give me a diamond. But we decided in the end to get a diamond with a pink sapphire halo.
You could look at designs for 3 stone rings? Personally I wouldnt worry about things matching your outfits!!
Why dont you get a blue cocktail ring and wear it daily for a few weeks to see what you think about it?
Also – I would do a bit of research into blue diamonds – I think many of them are enhanced to get that blue colour now, but not so many are natural anymore.

I voted to stick with a white diamond because I doubt you’d ever get tired of that. I have a band with blue diamonds in it and I hardly ever wear it! Maybe something fun and inexpensive like a blue diamond band would work? This way, you get what you want (the blue diamond) and your Boyfriend or Best Friend gets what he wants (white diamonds). Just a thought. I have something like this:

Get what you love now — couldn’t your friends also fall out of love with their white stones? Why is one color more secure than another?
Besides, you never will stop loving it. I never had an e-ring but I got a blue diamond anniversary ring for our 1 year wedding anniversary, and years later I still LOVE the way it looks (would’ve killed for one when we got engaged too lol). I no longer wear diamonds for ethical reasons, and am upgrading my anniversary ring with a moissanite wedding set, but still I think the color of treated blue diamonds is the most beautiful, by far. If I could get a blue moissy that color, my world would be perfect haha.
Can you list all the reasons you prefer this color to white? Maybe that would help convince your bf.
Curious, why is that ring so cheap?

@purpledaisies – I love that band! Its beautiful and its a great way to compromise!
@Jade33 – as for why the ring is so cheap I questioned that myself. At first I thought there might be something wrong with the diamond, such as poor cut or color or a lot of inclusions but from reading reviews on the sellers page it looks like they must buy in bulk and it might be a discontinued item or something along those lines.
I really love the idea of blue diamonds or even a simulated blue diamond (which I cannot find anywhere) I just hope I can convince my boyfriend to love them too 🙂

what color DOESN’T match with blue??

oh and also, if I hadn’t gone for yellow gold, THIS would have been my wedding band:
It would look great with a white diamond ring I’m sure. A great compromise.
I wanted color as well but got talked out of it by my sister. I got a moissy e-ring and then later paired it with an enhancer that has blue sapphires, so everybody wins

the only reason i said no is because it reminds me a little of the sapphire craze that has followed both princess di and princess kate. (no offense, i know they are different shades of blue but that’s what i think of)
for a while i thought i would want an alexandrite instead of a diamond (good alexandrites are actually more expensive than diamonds… go figure). but i grew out of that after about 6 months.
so, if you have time, see how you feel in 6 months before you decide for sure.

i say go with the blue diamond if you really love it! i think they’re fantastic as i just love that shade of blue! at the same time, i’m not exactly a traditional person so most people would find my preferences kind of wacky. i know some people might be put off by the color, thinking it’s not “engagementy” enough, but honestly in that sort of setting i don’t think anyone could mistake it for anything but.
