Apple offers a free class when you purchase. I suggest you sign up for one. In the interim read the manual.

Try the quick start guide they provide. Also look up online tutorials. You’ll get used to it.

The big button on the bottom of the phone is like the back button. You use the touch screen for everything else.

The one thing that took me MONTHS to figure out, though… the button on the left hand side when you flip it so that it’s orange, that silences the phone… so like if you want the phone muted without changing ring tones etc.

I have iPhone 4 by the way, not sure how different it is from 5.

Just mess with it? I had an iphone until i switched to my baby (a.k.a an android)and everything I figured out was trial and error.

Most of the stuff with an iphone is pretty easy to figure out, I just got my first one and it’s all seemed fairly basic and second nature – however, I do work at a technology store so it comes a little easier to me. What in particular are you having problems with?

Apple is the most intuitive system out there. What are you specifically having trouble with? Maybe we can help you with more specific problems.

@crayfish:  +1

OP, I’ve been using Apple products since I learned to read. If you have any questions I’ll be happy to help!

Also, here is a link to a Youtube tutorial that covers the very basics. I suggest thoroughly checking out the Settings (silver square with gears on it). A lot of the basics are in there – your wallpaper, ringtones and other sounds, brightness,

I just switched from a BLACKBERRY to an iphone today and I’m in the same boat.  My main gripes are that my emails don’t automatically update and notify me when I get a new email.  It’s driving me nuts.

It’s pretty overwhelming.

@KateByDesign:

Go to your Settings app

Choose Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Tap Fetch New Data.

You can change it to automatically check your email there. Default is set to manual because of the battery drain.

Also for the record – despite using Mac computers forever, I had a Blackberry before I had an iPhone. 😉

@autumnmountainbride:  Awesome, thanks.  And this might be pushing it, but is there any way to make it NOT vibrate and ring every time it “fetches new data”?

@KateByDesign:  Yes, go into your settings and select sounds and you can pick and choose what you want it to make sounds and vibrate for.
