My old boss just pulled me into a conference room and asked if I would be interested in taking a new position on his team. I would be starting from scratch and needing to learn an entire new skill set. The proposition was completely unexpected. I would be provided all the training I would need. I’ve been looking for another opportunity anyways. I even applied internally for another position, which would encompass some of my current skillset, last week, which I haven’t heard anything about. I don’t know what to do. I called my Darling Husband, but he’s too busy doing his thing to talk right now. Any advice?!?

Congratulations! Definitely find out more details about the new position, it sounds like this could be the change you were looking for! It isn’t exactly what you envisioned, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t an awesome new opportunity.

Need more info. Pay increase? Stability? Room for growth?

@WillyNilly: Since its an internal position, the pay increase will only be a few %s, I would think. Normally, you get more of a pay raise by taking a job outside the company, which isn’t fair, if you ask me. Apparently, the skillset I would learn is very sought after in the job market, since there aren’t very many people with the kind of experience I would learn. Apparently my company has looked all across the US to find someone, and there was no one out there, so they are looking to grow and train the candidate (possibly me) from the inside. It is a completely different direction than I was thinking of going, but to be approached for this opportunity, is such a great feeling 🙂
