Hey bees!
So, 3 weeks ago I was laid off from my job. Today I had an interview at an awesome company, doing exactly what I want to be doing, great pay, great benefits – basically I really want this job! I felt like I did very well on the interview this morning and 5pm this evening, the hiring manager asked me if I would be willing to come in tomorrow on a 4 hour trial basis, work with the woman who does the position I would be hired to do, and evaluate how quickly I learn the basics of the job.
I think this is a very good sign, but I’ve never been asked to do this before and I don’t know what to expect! Has anyone her ever been asked to do this before? Does this sound like as good a sign as I think it is?

I wish you all the best of luck…and yes, anytime you are asked to come back…it is a great sign. I was an Office & HR Manager and did most of the hiring for the Company so I can say with certainty that it is a very very good sign =)

From what I know, that’s a VERY GOOD sign! A lot of companies like to bring people in to make sure they can handle the environment, the tasks, and get along well with the people there. Be confident in your abilities! Good luck!

I have never had to do this with any job. There was one chain of restaurants that was trying that locally, but they were scamming people for free labor, then not hiring them.
Make sure they pay you for your time. I’m not syaing this is a scam, but be careful.

I have heard of local larger companies in our area doing this. GOOD LUCK! Fingers Crossed.

I would definitely say that is a good sign! I know every industry is different, but teachers are often asked to do a trial run in the classroom as the second or third phase of their hiring process, and to me this is the same concept.
Definitely GOOD LUCK! I will keep my fingers crossed for you, and I hope you come back with good news later. 🙂

Good sign definetly! How organised of the company to do it too – makes a refreshing change. Let us know when you know.

To those who asked, the position is office manager/assistant to CEO.
I’m SO excited to go in today! Nervous, but excited! I interviewed 3 jobs yesterday and, while they were all great, I liked this one the best. I hope I get it.

Good luck today! I got my first office job by being a temp for a day. They liked me so much they hired me on full time. I think that showing them what you can do is always the best way to prove to someone how great you are. Anyone can say anything in an interview.

I’d agree with what @julies said. My husband got an interview with a marketing firm and they asked him to come back and “shadow” for a day to see how well he liked it and fit with the position. Turns out they do this with all their potential employees for no pay. But if it is a company you feel is reputable, which it sounds like you do feel that way, then good luck to you because that could be a really wonderful opportunity!

I GOT THE JOB!
Oh my gosh! What a week! I had two interviews yesterday and I was offered both of them today. I chose the one for which I had the 4 hour trial. I am SO FREAKING happy! This job is exactly what I’ve been looking for: well paid, challenging, advancement opportunities, great company. YAY!
