@stardustintheeyes:  I know exactly how you feel. I am so so scared of failing that sometimes it really makes me not want to try. But I am proud that you are taking the challenge head on and doing the best you can, even if you want to cry. It is hard to feel confident in work that you are not an expert in. We can’t all be experts in everything. Although it is nice to have a job instead of being let go, is there not any other position in the plant you can move into instead? I don’t understand even how they could place you in this position without you having a degree in micrbiology. I even think that it may be against regulations or something as I assume states regulate water treatment, but that is beyond my point.

EEk.  Is there someone else there with your position or a similar position or something above you who isn’t a boss or supervisor or someone who has done your position before that you could maybe go to and ask to help you out and show you or teach you a few things??

I’m SURE you will do fine, though.  If you’ve been able to adapt before, you will be able to again.  I bet you don’t remember what it was like to learn new things at your previous positions and feel like you don’t know anything and in no time you will know a lot more than you think!

Last year, I had a change in positions for 12-13 months. Even though my boss gave me progressively harder stuff and the hardest stuff within the first 3 months, I was certain that for the first 8 months I had no idea what I was doing and I was just coasting by.  Then, I had to train someone new and whenever they asked me questions, I knew the answer.  That’s when I realized I actually DID know what I was doing lol.. So, sometimes it just takes a while to feel comfortable, but I’m sure you’ll get there!

@stardustintheeyes:  I see. It is still kinda silly that they expect you to be able to edit a scientific document. If you only have to fix the gramma and typos then ok, but those indepth research articles are hard to read let alone edit! I feel for you!!!!
