Just wanted to share my excitement about a new job. I don’t even know if this is welcomed or allowed.
I started as a security officer for a casino a week ago tomorrow, and I’m putting in my notice tomorrow. The job sucks, the schedule is terrible (3-11pm, Wed/Thurs off, I’d only see my boyfriend who is basically the only person I know here because we just moved here in July on the weekend mornings before I have to work, and after he gets off work on my off days), the pay isn’t great and I just don’t think the situation as a whole is a good fit. Standing for four hours at door posts to check IDs and then walking the entire casino for another four is killing my knees and feet.
I hope I am not expected to work out my notice, it’d be kind of stupid because I JUST started and only had one shift without a trainer babysitting me, but whatever. I’m not about to burn bridges. That’s not my style.
The new job is with a small family-owned veterinary clinic. I’ll basically be a vet assistant. The pay isn’t great (typical for the area) but the hours are WAY better, even with kennel duty on weekends and working 8-12 every other Saturday. I’ll see my boyfriend more and have holidays off.
What a relief! To anyone who’s unhappy with their job, I say find other opportunities. Can’t put a price on happiness.

Congratulations! It really sucks when you’re doing a job that you know you don’t enjoy, especially if it means missing out on quality time with loved ones. That’s something that is so important to me too!
Good luck with it!

alybe : Thanks! Yeah, I just don’t think it’s worth being miserable about a job that can and will replace me in a heartbeat. Let someone else do that nonsense, I’m over it. Haha. Life is too short and I want to actually HAVE a life, so…thank you, casino, NEXT.

I was a veterinary assistant for years. Loved the work and the people. No veterinary clinic pays well due to overhead cost. And remember, pet insurance doesn’t pay like human insurance. Best of luck and have fun.

Awesome!! When I read “security guard at a casino,” I wondered why you’d be excited! I mean, I’m sure it’s a good for a lot of people, but I’d be super bummed watching people lose money all day. I really do not like casinos. It seems much less uplifting than helping families with their furry members. I hope it’s as great as you hope.

tduck1 : Oh yeah? What were your favorite and least favorite parts? I am sure this is typical, but I’m really going to be doing a lot with the vet and it’s pretty interesting! Never done anything like this before. Lots to learn!

achicago : Agreed. The casino just wasn’t for me. I was a corrections officer and a cop before, and then I relocated with my boyfriend who’s in the military and now I just want to settle into something for a few years until we move again. I will be so glad to have my nights with him back.
