Meet Spike (yes, die hard Buffy fans here in our household!)
Beautiful! I love black cats.
I love him! How old is he?
Ugh.. sorry so huge! I don’t know what I did. Anyway he showed up at my brother’s on the front porch one day and my brother started feeding him, then letting him in the house, all the while saying he didn’t need a cat and so forth. So I told him I would take him once he got bigger (because I have a dog I don’t trust around something so tiny).
Well my brother was letting him stay inside all the time and spoiling him rotten… now my brother is in jail (long story) so we brought him home and we just keep him in our bedroom away from our troublemaker dog. He is SO precious!! I have no idea how old he is, need to take him to the vet and see if they can guess, but he is tiny. I think he was the runt or away from his mom too early. He behaves like a much older cat but is teeny! We’ve given him worming meds and flea treatment. He is sooooo lovable and sleeps with us every night. We have 2 other cats, one who is about 9 years old and one who is just over a year and he gets along fine with them. Well, they aren’t thrilled but he is soooo laid back and just looks at them like “Yo, what’s your problem? It’s all good!
He’s precious!! Just had to share.
@littlemissmoo: Me too! He’s got tiny bits of white on his back toes and neck. In all my years having cats, I’ve never had a black one! Amazing! Orange, gray, calico, tortiseshell, black/grey tabby, white, everything BUT black!
@mandb122: I have no idea! He is sooo small. He showed up at my brothers place about a month ago and was already eating dry food at the time he showed up on the porch. I am just guessing he was undernourished and orphaned and is small as a result. I plan on taking him to the vet in the next week, maybe they will have a better idea. 🙂
My first cat when I was about nine was a stray. He was so tiny and they guessed about 8 weeks but weren’t sure because he was so underweight so it was hard for them to tell exactly. I was surprised though that he knew how to use a litter box and also seemed to be used to cat food even though he was a stray. My cat now was four months old when we got him, now he’s three years old, and he still eats leaves (he was found with his siblings in a box outside).
@mandb122: Aww! Eats leaves! Pretty much every cat I’ve ever had has been a stray. And I usually find the ugliest ones too… I always figure they’re less likely to find a home if they’re funky looking! LOL! So I feel sorry for them.
Up until recently I never had “pretty” cats. My best cat EVER was a rather homely orange tabby my mom found, along with his brother. They were six weeks old and sitting on the side of the road literally in the middle of nowhere, on some Texas country road, watching cars go by. My mom brought them home. We gave one away and kept the sweetest, Sebastian. I was 17 or so… he lived until I was 35 years old… so he was 18 years old when he passed and he was just so awesome. I still miss him every day! He used to run up to greet me every day by sitting on the car rearview mirror when I pulled in. 🙂
This cat will be indoors only though. I’ve changed my thinking on that in the past few years and all the cats are now indoor only, after losing two who were spayed/neutered but just never came home. 🙁 Maybe if I lived in a different neighborhood… but the one I am in has a horrible stray dog problem and these are the kinds of dogs that will attack cats, and the city does NOTHING about the problem. It’s sad.
Aw, Sebastian was my second dog’s name, the first after we moved to South Carolina. He was named after the crab in the Little Mermaid (because I was four when I was allowed to name him). I tend to be drawn toward cats that have a lower chance of being wanted too. Right now i’m dwelling on a cat in our local shelter who is blind from an eye infection and isn’t the prettiest healthiest cat but to me he’s so cute and I’d love him, we just can’t afford another animal at the moment. The cat I have now though is so attached to me and he’s just a grayish brown tabby. Everyone kept asking how we picked him and I picked him because he was one of about ten tabby cats in the shelter and I felt drawn toward him and sorry that he might be overlooked.
This is my son (the almost 13 year old’s) cat, Mika. She was born in a car in the middle of last summer’s heat! Her littermates died and her mom wasn’t feeding her enough so the neighbor took her at about 2 weeks old and bottle fed her, then we took over when she was 5 weeks old. She is gorgeous. A little psycho, but pretty. She was all white as a baby, now she has random beige splotches and a dark and striped tail. Really cool. She’s very verbal and completely flips from lovey dovey to attack mode within seconds. It’s hard to stay mad at her though. She’s just too pretty and intermittently sweet. 😉
I just posted a thread about my puggle and one about my tabby cat. Both are from the same non-profit non-kill shelter. My cat is very vocal too : ) Most people ask if he does that all the time but he just walks around crying and meowing like it’s nothing. He doesn’t use his attack mode on us but he can go from irritating to sweet in no time.
@mandb122: I am the same way! We technically can’t afford this new baby but I couldn’t just leave him at my brother’s now that my brother isn’t there to take care of him. I am all about the underdog. Or under”cat” in this case. 🙂
I don’t remember why we picked Sebastian as a name, but our oldest cat Princess was named by my kids when they were little and watched a lot of Disney. They are boys and I think that Princess was just the only girly name they could think of. She totally lives up to the name though; demanding and prissy and very regal.. but very sweet.
I am such a bleeding heart. I would take in every stray if I could, and there is such a horrible stray dog problem here.. I am always feeding the “parking lot” dogs and when I was little my mom would get upset with me but I brought home every puppy or cat I found and she would find them homes after lecturing me for bringing them home.. I just can’t stand it when I find an animal in need. I’m too “soft” I guess. I will totally be the crazy cat lady one day… with dogs added I’m sure.. if I ever live out in the country!
@mandb122: Aren’t they funny?? This one (Mika) talks back a lot. If you tell her to get down or tell her “no” she turns and shoots you a look and has something to say about it. It’s like she wants to get in the last word. She’s very smart, too. We found an old toy of hers under the bed that she had not played with in months. It was some sock bell toy and it was ratty and worn so we threw it away. She got INTO the trash to retrieve it, and did this three times in a row! Each time she’d take it across the room and put it down on the bookshelf and look at us like “Why are you throwing away my things!?” Sooo funny.
yay for kitties my maltipoo puppies are my babies
🙂 🙂 cute cute cute!
