LOVE your new set of furniture.  Nice refreshing look.

Lol, at the 1980s indestructible furniture… sadly you’ll find that you won’t probably get the same mileage out of stuff that is manufactured now

(My couch from the early 1980s is still going strong… we recovered it.  My one from the late 1990s died long ago)

Until the 1990s, most furniture used “hard wood” in manufacturing (why that stuff is sooo heavy too) … now it is either “soft woods” or artificial composites…

I am happy to hear you held onto the “This End Up” pieces and are planning to repurpose them (my other choice would be to donate it, as I am sure someone else would appreciate it / get more mileage out of it too)… you could always give it a facelift… restain them, paint them, change the cushions etc.

It’s beautiful! We had some hand-me-down furniture when we first got married and moved in together. I’m grateful for it but looking forward to updating a bit once we have a house and more space!

I love your new set, good choice! Maybe a rug in a pattern like this?

It’s from Target but they have similar patterns all over, so you could find one in your price range.

P.S. My parents totally have that exact This End Up set in their basement! It used to be our living room furniture growing up, too haha.

Love it!! I would love a white liing room..there  is a living room on the pier 1 website that is white and I covet it. However, we have dogs and horses so white is a definite no-no. We went with jewel colors (scarlet and teal) becasue it is bright but not garish, and it hides dirt really well. Our couch is slipcovered (for a reason) but it is a well fitting slipcover so I dont mind it at all. Also, we have an oriental (wool, hand made) and that thing is a lifsaver in terms of hiding hair and stains). The rug actually set the colors for our the living room. I often wish we were young (second timers and older) so we could have started from scratch, but we both had pieces from our past lives that were really important to us, so making at all work took a bit of creativity and trial and error. I found color to be the glue that held it all together.

@LeonardLady:  love it, congrats! New furniture is so fun!  That wil really freshen and brighten up your space.  As for the rug, I’d stick with neutrals and maybe something with some of that blue in it!

As far as the rug, have you looked at Flor.com?  They have a lot of different patterns that are based on arranged carpet squares that are pieced together.  They have a lot of different patterns that you can get for the sized of your space.

So far I haven’t found anything there that just screams our living room, but I’ve been checking every so often to see.
