We eloped & honeymooned there.  I think it’s a mix of your first two bullets: very romantic, but seriously TONS of fun.  We had never even been there!  I just actually looked up romantic places in the US to elope.

I think you would love it, but of course I am biased. It is definitely a romantic city. Feel free to pm me any time.

I live less than an hour away and am there alot. Love NOLA, always will. It is a wonderful place with a great, friendly culture. And a ton of stuff to do. Plus our southern hospitality can’t be beat. I will tell you it depends on when you’re honeymooning. Since your date is in Feb-if you wait a few weeks you’ll hit mardis gras and it will mostly be tourists/the prices will be so outrageous!!!

I’ve been to New Orleans quite a few times, and I guess I’m just missing this romantic vibe you guys are getting from the city. I just like to party the whole time I’m there.

It’s a very different city outside of the usual tourist haunts 🙂 There’s more than Bourbon st/guided tours y’all. It is a deeply southern, resiliant, and vibrant town full of amazing cuisine, beautiful historic sites, and quiet nooks/crannies.

Absolutely!  Explore the French Quarter but stay off Bourbon Street and it’ll be perfect!

My Fiance and I were actually considering going to New Orleans for our honeymoon, but I guess there’s some sort of huge festival going on in late April, and so we’ve decided against it. I think it would have been great though!

@Irish Terrier:  New orleans Jazz and Heritage festival? If you can book a room early that makes it an even better place to visit 🙂

I think it’s a great idea.  It’s our backup honeymoon location if we aren’t able to save up enough to go to London and Paris as planned.  I think it’s a great mixture of romantic and party town!

The Boyfriend or Best Friend and I are going in mid April! Maybe a proposal will be in the works…but anyways I’ll definitely take LOADS of pictures and write a post all about it! I love Anne Rice as well and can’t wait to see some places used in the film Interview with a Vampire. Also, to see the house she lived in or lives in… I don’t think she does anymore.
