@coffeegal85:  My Darling Husband is slightly allergic to our dog. We have to give her a bath every week to keep it under control

I don’t have any long-term suggestions, I take Benadryl when I go home cause something about my mom’s cat makes me itch (I have a cat of my own and no problems). But holy crap, that puppy is adorable. I just love him!

I have no suggestions other than what you’re already doing and making sure to wash him a lot, but he is so cute!!!

Wash your sheets every week. Use air purifiers in your house, keep him out of the bedroom and put allergy covers on your pillows and mattress.

A lot of times your body will adjust and you’ll get used to having him around. My friend is allergic to dogs (severely) but wanted to have two labs (yea, not even hypoallergenic breeds!) and he just sucked it up for the first few weeks and now he is totally fine with them.

I ran this by an allergy speciallist beacuse my Fiance is allergic and we eventually want a dog. She said this is very common – your body just isn’t used to the dog yet, and you can take a daily allergy pill without any trouble. Keeping him out of sleeping areas is a good idea, though. 🙂

@coffeegal85: we use some sort of very light shampoo that is delicate on the skin and OK for weekly use. Most are not OK for weekly use. We also use a conditioner on her fur. Its soo soft!

It’s also spring. Do you have any pollen or other allergies? Any mold in your home? Or is it really dry? If it’s only bothering you while you sleep, it might not be the dog. I know I have drainage/sore throat when I wake up, but that’s from the heat being on at night.

@NLbride this 🙂 My Darling Husband is also mildly allergic and now has no problem with our long haired shepherd or our long haired cat. A zyrtec or allegra took care of any discomfort in the beginning and he adjusted to them pretty quickly, much like the allergy shots he had when he was younger. Now he only needs the meds for seasonal allergies, which here in LA are going crazy already.

I had the same issue with our labradoodle at first. I’ve been around dogs all my life and never had any issue but was sneezing a lot with him. I took Benadryl a few times and after a few weeks was perfectly fine.

ETA: Btw, your puppy is adorable!
