@LEwife543:  I’ve never had anything but an American-made car (not for any reason other than those ended up being what I liked), so I’d probably go that route, just for familiarity and comfort. Before my current car (Aveo), I drove a 1999 Chevy Trailblazer. It was a lot smaller than the current Trailblazer, was a five-door instead of a three-door and was the perfect size. Of what you listed, the Escape looks most “at home” to me.

Yes, I know, a useless opinion. Just my long way of saying I like your choice best. 😀

Toyotas have an amazing customer care program and some great sales going on, plus toyotas are more american made than some of the “american brands” lately.

@SthnBelle45:  That’s a good point! I hope it didn’t sound like I was opting for the Ford for the sake of being American-made, but rather because the “American-made” cars tend to be very similar inside as far as feel and setup, which I find I am more suited to. At least so far in my experience. It’s been a while since I bought a new car (2008), so I know that things have changed a lot. The knobs and buttons inside now could be totally alien to me!

I have a Honda CRV and I love it! It fits 5 people comforably, and I’ve never had an issue with space for storing and transporting things in it.  My previous car was really small (Mini Cooper), and the CRV drives like a car rather than a truck which made for an easier transition. Plus, from what I’ve seen, they seem to hold their value very well over time. 😀

@ellisrobertson:  i felt the same way. Im a dodge girl swore I would never buy anything but dodge and then my hubby got me to look at toyotas. I bought a corolla (i looked a tthe 4runner GREAT suv but over my price range) and I love it and the 2 years free maintnance and road side assistance is great. plus the resale values stay up on toyotas!

I have a Ford Explorer and absolutely love it! I’ve previously had 2 fords and a hyundai.  My first Ford was horrible, but it was also 8 years old when I bought it, my second ford was also an explorer and I loved it but it pooped out at about 100,000 miles.  I hated the Hyundai, way too small.  My Ford now has a third row seat (that I almost never use) so it seats 7 but the seat folds flat and the trunk is a really nice size.  I also really like how spacious the interior feels, I don’t feel like I’m going to hit my head and there’s plenty of leg room (in almost every car I have to have the seat all the way back, this one has a little extra it could go).

i’ve had 3 suvs in my time and the best one was the bmw x3.  i loved it. perfect size for me and 4 other passengers.  i found the x5 to be too large for my preference.

now my dh loves subarus so his vote would be for the forester.

@LEwife543:  My explorer is a 2007 with about 85,000 miles on it.

How about storage space? I have a dog too, will he fit pretty comfortably? He’s about 45 pounds.

As far as the explorer, I can fit my three dogs in the trunk (105 pounds, 68 pounds, 20 pounds).

And gas mileage. How’s the monthly gas bill looking?

Gas mileage is horrible, about 18 miles to a gallon.

Oh, maintenance too!! Any mechanical problems?

No mechanical problems so far (knock on wood) just scheduled maintenance.  But I bought the extended warranty so I do still have that up to 100,000 miles.

We have a 2012 CRV and love it. It has a decent amount of cool features, good gas mileage and lots of room. I have also had a 2004 Rav4 and really liked that too. When we went car shopping though, I felt like we were getting into my old car. Nothing had changed and the biggest turn off was no blue tooth.

Our second choice was the Mazda CX5. It was brand new for 2012 and really had to get. I have heard nothing but good things about them.
