OK so I have an idea – I am getting different butterfly’s tattooed on my shoulder – one for each important event in my life – I have one from when I turned 18, and one when I graduated – i want to get one for my Fiance and he loves the idea – but should I get it done before or after the wedding – NB it will be visible in my dress!

Personally, I would get it done after. I have all my tattoos hidden because on my wedding day I want people to say “Oooh doesn’t she look beautiful!” rather than “Oh, I didn’t know she had a ____ tattoo”. Just my preference though 🙂 I’d also want to wait because of the “what if” factor. What if it gets infected? What if it’s not exactly what you want and it needs more work? Plus I think if you wait until after, maybe Fiance could help you design it and you could go together. I think it would be really meaningful that way.

I’d wait.. it could be a fun thing for you to do with your new hubby! maybe he could get a secret tattoo, too.
I wouldn’t want people asking me about it and wondering about my body when in my wedding dress, personally. I agree w/ bakerella.

hmmm – my two other butterfly tattoo’s will also be visible – but I like the idea of my Fiance helping with it!

Personally I’d do it before but that’s me, I have only one now and it’s only visible when I wear a swimsuit and even then it’s not always easy to see. I wish I could show it off more! I want another a memorial and it will be VERY visible on my foot and ankle and I’d love to do it before my wedding so it’s with me on my big day because it’s memorializing someone who can’t be with me. So with that said I would do it before because I like the idea of showing them not covering them up. I TOTALLY understand that some people don’t like to see them on their big day but since it’s to represent you and your Fiance I would think it would be very appropriate. Are you covering up the ones you have now on the day of? What does Fiance feel? What are your reasons for doing it before vs after?

Personally – I’d say before. But everyone knows I have tattoos and they’re part of who I am, so it won’t be anything shocking. I love the idea of visible tattoos in a wedding dress – it adds something interesting and non-traditional.

I would get one before, and have the photographer take notice in a wedding photo or two…i love tattoos and butterflies are a plus!
