Welcome! =]

First of all, you will need him for everything. That, or a power of attorney or an 1172. It can get irritating.. believe me! To get your dependent card (you need that to go EVERYWHERE on base!) you need to have him, a copy of your marriage license, and two forms of identification.

For your car stickers/base decals you need your marriage license, drivers license, proof of insurance, and registration. Or he can just say it’s his car and go get it himself, whichever would be easiest!

I am not only a Navy Wife but I work for the Navy Family Support Center, so if you have ANY questions at all I am the girl to ask! =]

Cool!  I used to work in Pax, but then I transferred to Lakehurst to be with my now husband!  How you enjoying Pax?  You new to the area?  If you have any questions or want ideas on stuff to do in the area feel free to message me.

About your question…honestly I can’t remember too well what you need to bring to get all that stuff.  I think you’ll likely need your license (possibly birth certificate or passport) to get your CAC card and for car stickers you’d need your registration I think (having proof of insurance can’t hurt).  It’s been a while since I’ve done all that.

You can give the Pass and ID office a call before you head over (you may need to make an appt anyways) to ask about what you might need.

You’re welcome!

I’d say if you can wait and get your new driver’s license with the new name to use before going to get all that stuff that would be best.  I just went through the name change process and they kind of do it all for you but i feel like there are little things that my name didn’t get changed over for (like some company website or something).  So to save yourself that trouble, just use your new license! 🙂

No, you don’t need to have it changed beforehand. I actually didn’t change mine for a couple months and when I went in she asked if I wanted to have my married name or maiden name on the card.

My friend still hasn’t legally changed her name, and it has her married name on her dependent card.

Good luck and congratulations!

You can also obtain a form from your husband to get your ID without him if he is unable to go with you (deployed or in training).  I got my ID on an Air Force base (DH is Navy) while he was in basic once I had the authorization form.

I took my SS card, license, birth certificate, marriage license, and my form.  I am not sure what all he actually needed because I just handed him the whole pile of documents. 🙂  Better to be safe than sorry.  I personally would wait to have my married name on all the documents before getting it because it can be a hassle to get if you do want to change it eventually.  But that’s just my personal preference.

He registers you in DEERS initially, but following getting your ID, you get a letter in the mail with an access code that you use to log in to DEERS and then you have access to all your health care provider information, at least that’s how I had it.

I have found it was a very different experience going without him (because I had to) than my sister and other friends who went with their husbands.

Oh, and when you register your car, you go to the Pass and ID office by the gate.  You’ll need the person whose name is on the registration and insurance to be present with their driver’s license, at least that’s how our base operated when we registered DH’s car.  He had to be there with his license and show registration and insurance because it was all in his name.
