I picked out a series of styles I wanted last fall, and we shopped online together this January and found the style/store we want to get it from (I’m getting a non-traditional ring). We went to get my ring size and fake-shopped for standard style rings at the end of February. So at the moment, he knows what I want (a colored cluster) and what store makes it custom, and I have no idea if he’s actually started working on design with them or even contacted them. We’ll be getting engaged in July, though, so it will have been a long 7-8 months since we started the process.

I was with my man a little over 4 years when he proposed. We started dating when I was still in high school. We had looked at rings for close to 6 months before he was ready to buy. I showed him 5 or 6 I really liked and he ended up showing me one that he picked out on his own and that is the one we decided to go with. I was involved in the process. He purchased the ring on January 11th, one day after our 4 year dating anniversary. It was my anniversary gift (although he did not consider us engaged at this point, we are poor college students haha, so he couldn’t afford an engagement ring AND an anniversary gift haha!). He proposed on March 3. I didn’t have to wait too long, but it sure felt like forever. He wanted it to be really special and wanted to surprise me, and while I was not surprised it was very special 😊😊

Well, with my ex, we were together for 5 years, he kept promising me marriage. I tried on rings, with his best friend with us, so not like it was a secret, I picked out the ring. He wound up cheating and we broke up, so never got the ring.

With my current boyfriend, we are together for a year.  I am super picky about what I wanted and I know a lot about jewelry so he told me to pick it and then he could surprise me with when and how. I FINALLY decided on my setting a few days ago. I was really uncertain about what I wanted and kept changing my mind. I have no idea when he will actually propose. We aren’t in a rush. If I had to guess I’d say in the fall so not for a while, but we’re only together a year, so waiting till the fall we wont even have been together 2 years by then. He has kids and we want to make sure they’re feeling safe and happy and secure about it, so that’s the reason I personally want him to wait longer, We’re adults and talked about our marriage and expectations and all, and I know its silly and immature to some, but I’d like the actual proposal timing to be a surprise.

Its funny, with my ex I was definitely anxious and I think deep down I knew he wasn’t truly committed to me so being engaged was important, almost like to prove he was committed. With my boyfriend now, I am of course excited about it, but I am not anxious over it, I’m not sure if that makes sense, but I am so secure in our relationship I don’t “need” to be engaged, I know we are together for the rest of our lives.

We’ve been engaged for awhile now. We’re getting married June 16th and still no ring. He had ordered a custom ring in November 2016 and was anxious to get it on my finger. The ring designer (Zhedora on etsy) did a terrible job and took almost a year to “fix” it. We only got our money back a couple months ago and are starting the process with another designer (really hoping I get my ring before the wedding). I don’t think there will be any wait time at all between when he gets it and pull a “formal proposal.” I’d talk to him in your situation and get a timeline that you’re both on board with. At 30 with life and plans you need to know you’re on the same page. Don’t forget to post pics when you get it 🙂 mine’s going to be an oval too and I just can’t get enough oval pics in front of my eyeballs!

Maybe half an hour. We went shopping together, I found the ring I wanted, he bought it, we went to lunch, and he proposed.

I happily waited a year after I picked out my engagement ring. So I don’t get the whole “waiting” threads where young women have such anxiety over it.

We’ve been floating the idea of getting married since last spring. We’d been together two years at the time and were making plans to move in together (which we now have). Then over the past several months I shopped around (August through December just browsing) and in December or so we sat down to browse pinterest and picked out the style I like (irregular clusters with sapphires & colored stones) and we picked out 3-4 inspiration rings I really liked. My partner and I found a jeweler who specializes in this style and who creates custom designs in our budget and so he could at any time start the process of purchasing. He plans on proposing on our vacation to France this summer (start of July) so from picking the ring/jewler to on my finger it’ll be about 7 months?

Honestly I’m anxious for it to happen because I’m excited to tell our families. But I stay occupied planning our vacation. I guess some people could say we’re already engaged since we’ve talked wedding plans (we’ve picked our general area, a season, colors, and our officiant informed us he’d officiate before we even started talking about it!) but we’re not ready to announce yet.
