I would recommend going to the Chicago local board, there are I think two threads where currently planning brides or brides who already got married list out what vendors they used, you might be able to get some ideas there.  Do you have any vision of your day or what kind of space you need (for how many people, spacious so you can decorate yourself or already with personality so you don’t have to do a lot of additional work)?

I don’t know if you are close to downtown but if you are, get tickets to the Wedding Salon show. It’s Monday, June 4th. I went to the last one and it was great! See details below, including code for free tickets. The other good wedding show that happens a few times a month all over the Chicago area is http://www.bridalshowexpo.com/. I would recommend going to at least one of those. You’ll see lots of vendors and get tons of ideas. I was not brand new to Chicago when I got engaged but I didn’t know enough people who were recently married to get recommendations so I just went to some wedding shows and read reviews on http://www.weddingwire.com. Good luck!

For wedding salon on 6/4:

Enjoy! You have been gifted tickets to a luxurious evening

I forgot…regarding a gown shop…I went to a few in the suburbs and I got my dress at Wolsfelt’s in Aurora. I think they are great. I also had a very good experience at Kathryn’s Bridal in McHenry.

As for a nail shop, I am still working on that myself!

Where are you located/getting married?  I’m in the suburbs and would be happy to help too!!

There’s a new bridal salon in Lombard (they just opened 1/28/12) that is pretty much a one stop shop.  They have bridal gowns, bridesmaids, MOG and MOB, invitations, flowers, cakes, and tuxes.  I’m sure I’m forgetting something.  Oh, hair and make up as well.  I’ve gone a couple of times to scope it out and am going next week to shop for my dress.

Where exactly are you? I lived in Chicago for four years, and I went to yoga at Moksha Yoga. They have locations in Wicker Park-ish and Lakeview.

I got my dress in the suburbs at a place called House of Hope. It’s a resale shop and they get dresses from the other bridal stores in the area at the end of the bridal season, and they sell all the dresses for $50! A lot of them are old and gross, but mine looked like it had never been tried on before, and I love it!

Good luck!

I would def. recommend going to the Chicago Bridal Exo they are currently offering 4 free tickets if you check out their Facebook page. That will be your all access pass to a bunch of differen vendors from venues to salons! And you might be able to meet other brides to network with since you’re new to the area! I’d check it out.

If you’ll also be looking for a photographer I worked as a photo editor at a photography studio at Photos And Company and their photos are adorable! I know they are now looking to expand into wedding photography so they are offering a porfolio building price. It’s really affordable and they’re such lovely people! Photos And Company

Good luck!
