- Wedding: June 2013
I’m excited to have some new friends to share in my engagement/wedding excitement! I’m 24 years old, my Fiance is 23 years old, and we’re currently teaching English in Vietnam! We got engaged in September of last year here in Vietnam and were planning on going home for Christmas. Well, we ended up falling in love with SE Asia, getting certified to teach in Thailand, and moving back to Vietnam for a year. So, needless to say, I don’t have many girlfriends over here to gush over this stuff with! My Fiance lovingly puts up with it, but he is more excited about other things! There’s also a 12 hour time difference, so when I see something I love, I have wait 8 hours for my mom or my Maid/Matron of Honor to respond to their email 🙂
My Fiance and I met in college, and have been dating for 4 years. Before we left on our post-grad adventure, we had been talking about getting engaged, and I had a feeling it was going to happen during our travels. He picked out a beautiful antique ring that we had refurbished, but it wasn’t ready by the time we left the country. He proposed to me on a boat in Southern Vietnam on the Mekong river with a ring made out of palm frond that our tour guide had made. It was a surprise for both of us– he said he was just planning on doing it when the time was right and wanted to be just as surprised as I was!
Since we decided to stay a while longer over here, his family has been keeping my ring safe for me. They came here 2 weeks ago on vacation to visit us and brought the ring with them. Despite my constant pestering, he managed to keep the ring from me for another week, and surprised me again, with another proposal (this time was planned) on a secluded beach in Northern Vietnam with the ring in a beautiful seashell. I am a lucky girl to have two wonderful proposals!
However, I am going crazy not being able to plan our wedding!! We want a Summer 2013 date, but we won’t be home until Thanksgiving this year, so I am worried about venues filling up. Anyways, I’m looking forward to having this as an outlet, and looking forward to having so many people for good advice!
