@kgarvin01:  Some will say you can start trying immediately. Some say it depends on how long you were on the pill.

I was on the pill for four months. It took 3 months before it was out my system. I conceived five months after I got off the pill.

@kgarvin01:  Everyone is different. My mom was on the pill for 10 years, and she got pregnant 3 weeks after going off the pill. She had a great pregnancy and my sister was born perfectly healthy πŸ™‚

We didn’t actively try but I went off the pill in early August last year and ended up conceiving in mid-October, so about two and a half months to conceive/three months to get a positive test.  I was on the pill for over five years at that point. I don’t see why you can’t start trying right away and maybe replace that pill with a prenatal vitamin. Smile

I think you’re asking if it’s safe to conceive right after going off the pill? In that case, there’s so harm to mom or baby in getting pregnant right after stopping the pill (or when on it!). As PP said, it depends from woman to woman how quickly your bod regulates itself after stoppin the pill, so you might not be able to chart/track your cycle very accurately initially, but you can definitely get pregnant right away! Start taking a pre-natal vitamin with ~0.4-0.5mg of folic acid about a month before you go off the pill and continue through at least the 1st trimester.

Good luck!!

You can start trying immediately but I’d recommend charting your BBT immediately so you know if you ovulate right away. I know how frustrating it is to be spinning your wheels in the TTC department (that is, BDing like crazy but never Oing).

@kgarvin01:  Folic acid helps prevent neural tube defects (spina bifida is most common one). Other things in pre-natal vitamins are definitely important too, but much of the nervous system forms before you get a positive pregnancy test, so it’s suggested that women start on it as soon as they are NTNT or TTC. I think the US guidelines (I’m in Canada) actually suggest 1mg/day for pregnant women, I think because more things in Canada have folic acid added into them (like flour).
