Hello there! I have just turned 18, and I will also be in an LDR starting in August when I leave for university. Although many people in LDRs have more distance than what my boyfriend and I will have to deal with (I will be attending college about 150 miles away), we will be in this long distance phase for at least two years. This is because my boyfriend is still in high school…despite being less than 18 months younger than I am, I was two years ahead of him in school.

I completely understand the thought of losing your best friend – honestly, my boyfriend is my best friend…he  and I click so well! Try not to dread the time until August, or at least too much. Make the most of it! You should get as much face-to-face interaction as you can before you go long distance.

(And as a quick side note, my boyfriend and will probably end the long distance phase in two years if he gets into the same university. Hopefully we would be able to live together off-campus a year or two after that as he completes undergrad and I stick around for grad school).

SO and I have been together for 4 years (on Monday!) and we’re starting an LDR in August because I’m moving 8 hours away for grad school … 3 years of LDR. We both know that it will be difficult to talk as frequently. But, because I’ll probably be in front of a computer often, we’ve learned to talk primarily on Google Chat. We’ve also initiated a few rituals so that we at least have some form of daily communication. I also have a personal blog that I’ll be posting regular updates to, so I’m sure he’ll be reading that.

My fiance is doing a PhD in MO, USA and moved there last year, but we have been in a long distance relationship for over 3 years!! (Me in Australia).

I left my bestfriend, 10 years ago. I was dating him at the time, and due to financial constrictions, we eventually broke up. But I can tell you, Over the last 3 years of us giving us a try again with more control over our lives, it has been wonderful!!

LDR is REALLY hard, esp when its your bestfriend who is leaving too! and I can REALLY understand! Esp with a med student schedule, its even more frustrating!! I know my partner sometimes works till 10 om at night and on the weekends for his PhD. But have faith in each other… talk EVERY chance you get! Synchronise a date time for you and him once a week and make every attempt to make it special… and most of all, if they dont pan out that way… DON”T GET ANGRY!!! Leave the arguments for the most important things!! Being LDR, you can afford to get mad at small things like u would when ur in the same place! ๐Ÿ™‚

You are in the same country… you CAN see each other… maybe u would have to make the trip and not him. but enjoy the smallest moments! ๐Ÿ™‚ You get to know your best friend ALOT BETTER this way!!
