I’ve been scouring the classifieds here and on places like recycledbride and bravobride looking for décor items for my wedding. And it feels rather frustrating because I can’t find anything that I’m looking for. In particular I wanted frosted optic votives and 3×3 squared frosted vases and while I can find them new, I wanted to try finding them used not only for the price savings but to avoid having to add to the production of items for my wedding.
But with the amount of time I’ve spent scouring classifieds I probably would have been better off buying new and looking for a part-time job or volunteering my time!
Did you find it hard to find used items for your wedding?

I never bought from there, but Weddingbycolor.com has a “market place” where brides sell things after their wedding.

I said other because I’ve been buying new and used things! I like a good deal… either online at a thift store or new on sale!

Yes. We probably have about 50/50 for used and new items at our wedding. I tried to find as much lightly used items as i could to cut costs. We saved a bit with some of our used items. Also the dollar store helped allot. And using the weekly coupons from michaels flyers for their store saved us allot.

Where I am, it was better/ most cost efficient to buy things new, sadly. Brides be stingy round here. Or something. I searched craigslist and brides wanted more for their used things. It was nuts.

@cbee: I’m seeing that also. I guess they are trying to cover taxes/shipping along with the actual cost.
I’ve only been buying new things with coupons/sales also, but I guess I just expected it would be easier than this.

My venue comes with all the centerpieces and decor. So I’m only buying candles and colored rocks. I don’t mind buying those used… but I don’t think I want used candles that will only burn for an hour. I’m trying to find used colored rocks but there is a limited selection… so probably will just buy them new.

I’m renting…is that not an option in your area?

Have you tried ebay? You can get new things on there even with shipping and handling fairly cheap for decorations

Theres no way I could afford all the vases, so I hunted around and found a good rental place. (sadly, they are located and hour south of me and the wedding is 3.5 hours north of me, but oh well….) Whatever I end up buying I will try to sell, why not? I don’t have the space for all this stuff!!

I bought blue mason jars and shair sashes from other bees. I assume they’re used. I bought my card holder and some lanterns from a neighbor who bought it and didn’t end up using it. I’m buying clear mason jars new, as well as votive candles. Flowers will obvi be new. So I mixed it up.

@blg529: I haven’t seen things like frosted votives/centerpiece mirrors/tulle draping for rent. My venue comes with the basics like tables/chairs/linens/plates/etc. But nothing really to decorate with.
@Sassygrn: I haven’t really been looking there as much as I should have. I should probably start.
