I think it’s a great idea if you like it. Just be mindful it is a busier time of year so depending where your venue is there might be fireworks in the background and a lot of traffic/commotion nearby. Also don’t know what your friends/family is like but mine have certain traditions and places to go for New Years Eve so attendance could potentially be a problem – however, I would think most people wouldn’t mind changing schedule to attend a wedding. Also, it could limit your choices of celebrants/photographers/DJs as some might not be willing to work on New Years Eve but with that said I’m sure plenty will still be working.

I’m not a fan.  First of all, I tend to travel to my childhood home over the holidays to see my parents; unless you lived there, I’d have to come home early to attend your wedding.  Secondly, I want to spend NYE with *my* friends — not with yours.  I’m sure there are other people who don’t mind NYE weddings, but I just don’t like them.

Completely depends on your circle. My husband and I have travelled the past few years the week after Christmas because it’s one of the few times we both get time off, so unless I had plenty of heads up, we wouldn’t make a New Years wedding if we already had travel plans. I would just get a feel for what your friends and family do normally. If a lot of your family and friends already spend New Year’s Eve together anyway then go for it.
