I quite dislike New Year’s so besides going to church on the night, I generally try to ignore it. Just watch one of the myriad marathons on TV, enjoy having the house to yourself and go to bed early. You can wish everyone happy new year’s on the 1st. To be fair though, I’m not a partier and I’ve only been to a holiday party once and I would much rather have spent the night cozying up in my bed.

It doesn’t have to be bad unless you choose to view it that way. You’re not a loser and there are a lot of people who spend the holidays alone all the time and they’re fine. If you have people to spend the other days of the year with, then you should be grateful. Enjoy being alone! It’s not actually a bad thing. You can do whatever you want all night. That’s awesome and if you live with others, I’m sure you don’t get the house to yourself that often. Enjoy the freedom, dear. Eat what you want, lie in bed all night, sing and dance to your favourite music at the top of your lungs. Nobody’s around to laugh at you or judge you for it. Be grateful you’re in your warm, cozy house instead of out on the street, freezing your butt off, among the drunk and disorderly.

Do you have anyone you can spend it with? Any friends nearby?

If you have a pet, it helps to cozy up with him or her.

I’m sorry to hear that you will be alone new years Eve! Can you try and make it a ‘me’ night by getting in your favourite food and wine? I’ m having my operation new years Eve to remove the last remains of my breast cancer so I’ll be in hospital but my fiancé is goingtto stay with me if he can so at least I’ll have some company!

IsobelC82:  I feel that people make too much out of these “holidays.”  I’m the old fart kind of person who likes to sit at home by myself and watch movies.  My husband and I will probably stay at home with our daughter and watch movies after she’s gone to bed.  Even when I was in college, I prefered to be at home instead of out partying and drinking.

Is there anyone that may want to stay in with you?  I know that an evening at home can be much more fun than an evening outside of the home.

I’ve done it & survived.  You’ll have lots of NYEs in your lifetime.  One that’s less than stellar doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things.

I spent some New Years with my mom and stepdad if I have nothing to do. They have a spare  room and get me drunk without the roofies. ((((Hug)))) next year will be better

My FH is working and I’m recovering from surgery, so will most likely have a quiet night in with our cats. The upside is I’m not spending money on overpriced drinks, waiting ages for an overpriced cab or getting caught in the probable rain. When I wake up on New Years Day it’ll be our wedding year!

New Years Eve sucks- I never go out and don’t plan on it this year. Stagoing in, ordering take out and binge watching TV sounds waaaaaay better to me than going out in the huge crowds and paying for overpriced food, drinks and cover charges. It almost feels like you HAVE to have fun or the night will be a waste- which off course means I never do.

IsobelC82:  I love New Years Eve, and I celebrate it every year! Before I was married, I’d  stay home with Chinese food and watch the Twilight Zone marathon on SciFi. Some years, that is what my husband and I do now.

You can be low key and still enjoy yourself. Get your favorite food and watch your favorite movies, Maybe even splurge and go to the theaters and watch a couple

Someone once told me hat they equated New Year’s Eve to premature ejaculation – that there is this huge build up for it only to be a let down.

I’ve never been a huge party person so New Year’s Eve has never been a big deal for me. I have spent many of them alone and I’m okay with that.

One of the best ones I had was when I was alone and drank 2 bottles of champagne by myself.
