Good evening ladies,
I have been a lurker on this board for close to 8 years, and now that wedding bells will most likely ring for me soon I have decided to officially join the Bee 🙂
Given my partner and I have absolutely no previous experience re: engagement rings, I figured I would turn to the Bee for some recommendations. I’d greatly appreciate if you could help answer a couple of question please.
1) Is it generally cheaper to buy online as opposed to buying in a brick & mortar store? Budget would VERY right, more than $2,000 and under.
2) Besides BlueNile, are there any other online retailers you would recommend keeping in mind the right budget?
3) Are there any ladies in the DMV area that are able to recommend an affordable jeweler with quality ring?
I started browsing this site to help other friends who were getting married and I can’t believe it will soon be my turn!!!!! Thank you in advance for any help you can give! 🙂

A lot of people like James Allen online retailer. Congratulations! A very exciting time :).

Congratulations! I suggest Quest Jewelers in Fairfax, Mervis Diamonds in Tysons & DC, or Dominion Jewelers in Falls Church. DH bought my rings from Blue Nile, but I have worked with Quest on other jewelry projects in the past. Good luck!

I’ve heard/researched James Allen is good. You can pick out your stone and setting seperately( if you do IDK what your taste is but I wouldn’t go past a J color diamond and SI in clarity) & Congratulations!

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, and for your suggestion. We’ll definitely check James Allen. I also plan on taking a look at Pricescope

thank you for the local recommendations! I have no idea exactly what my tastes are, so I will probably go to one these local stores to see what I like 🙂

I went to Charleston Alexander. Got a great platinum Tacori setting and had a CZ put in. Little more than $2000

Thank you 1cat. Regarding color and clarity, the 4Cs are actually another aspect of ring shopping that I find daunting. Like what matters most? Color, clarity, or cut?
