- Wedding: March 2012 - Pelican Grand Beach Resort
I never did this, so now is as good a time as any.
I’m 28, and a PhD student in Classics. I am *supposed* to defend and graduate this summer. We’ll see. I met my FH while I was in high school, about 12 years ago. He had graduated from the same school the year before, but we didn’t know each other. Anyway, 2 years later, we dated some over the summer before I went to college, but it didn’t go anywhere. We continued to hang out (some sometimes hook up) over the next year or so when we were in the same place and both single, but it never got serious. Then I met ex-husband amd things between me and FH swiftly moved to the friends-only categorty. We sort of stayed in touch, which got easier once facebook was invented, but it was very superficial.
Ex-husband and I dated for a few years, moved in together when we got engaged, and got married about 2 years after that, and it was a mistake from the moment we said “I Do.” Our Honeymoon was awful, married life was awful, but he would NOT talk to me about it. He wouldn’t even acknowledge that we were having problems–even though we clearly were and I had tried to talk to him a thousand times in so many different ways–until he told me he wanted a divorce. By that time, his mind was made up and he wouldn’t consider anything else. We lived together for another 10 months like that since neither of us could afford to live alone until he finished his MBA and moved away. I had basically been “married” for almost 2 years, but I had not been in a reciprocal relationship for any of that time, and during the last 10 months or so, I was basically single without the benefit of being able or ready to date.
After we separated (we’d formally get divorced 7 months later), I moved my things into my new place and then went to my hometown for 7 or 8 weeks until I had to return to resume teaching and study. I hung out with FH one evening and we ended up making out on the beach. About 6 or 7 weeks later, we decided to date exclusively, and then about a month after that, he moved up here and in with a friend of his who was jsut starting graduate school. We moved in together a year after that and got engaged July 3, 2011. I feel so blessed to be so happy and to be with someone who communicated with me and puts our shared life and our shared goals before any personal agenda.
Our wedding is March 3, 2012, on the beach in Fort Lauderdale. TOES IN SAND! I absolutely cannot wait. It’s so soon! All the big things are taken care of, but there are a lot of details to still work out and a lot of people to still pay. We wanted a super small affair, but our parents wanted the full deal, so we’ve invited 111 and are having a full reception.
