I’m Newbie-ish and am just getting started on the venue search for September 2013. We are scheduled to go look at Liberty View Farm and Ashokan Dreams next weekend. Here are some of the details of our wedding at it’s very beginning stages:
– Guest List: approx 100
– Budget: $8-12K
– Venue preference: Outdoor tent or barn. Indoor backup would be nice but is not a dealbreaker.
– Importance: Food, green space for lawn games, scenery.
– DIY: A lot since I love crafts and Fiance is a graphic designer.
Does anyone have any info about Liberty View Farm (our #1 choice) and Ashokan Dreams regarding price. And of course if anyone has been to an event there or visited the venues, what were your impressions.
We are also open to other similar venues within 90 minutes of NYC that might fit our budget and preferences.
Thanks for your input!

PM me with your email address and I’ll send you the spreadsheet I made of those places and similar venues with websites and prices where I was able to get them.
I originally started with a 15k bugdet and we blew it out of the water, so watch out. Especially tents and rentals could kill you.

I don’t know anything about Ashokan Dreams, but I did grow up in the area and I can tell you it’s a lovely area with lots of things to do, especially if your guests are outdoorsy types. The only caveat is that there isn’t a whole lot of lodging in the area – if your guests aren’t staying at the B&B, they might have to take a bit of a drive to their hotels. There are a bunch of hotels in Kingston, which is a 30 minute drive from Shokan, one large hotel (the Emerson) in Phoenecia (about a 15 minute drive) and a few little motels scattered around.
There’s also the Onteora Mountain House (which i think was rather pricey) and Kaaterskill Farms, which quoted me $4K for a weekend wedding at their barn.
ETA: Looks like the Emerson also does outdoor weddings! Here’s their price list: http://www.emersonresort.com/wedding-services/wedding-packages

I pm’d you, Cecilia37.
And thanks KatieBklyn! Kaaterskill wasn’t even on my radar but after checking them out, I’m smitten. Though it looks like all of the extras would tip my budget way over. It’s so beautiful there. And yes, Ashokan Dreams is a bit far off… it’s just so lovely.
I am actually going to visit Twin Lakes next month also. Anyone have any thoughts about that venue?
You all are great!

I fell in love with the Kaaterskill. Was originally thinking of even possibly having a wedding at a park/campground with a pretty view to save money, but then couldnt pass the Kaaterskill up. I really love that you can have your bridal party stay at the Inn with you and rent the entire place with 2 barns (bar and reception) for the whole weekend.
We are considering a potluck style dinner to save money..

Liberty View quoted me $14,000 just for staffing, chairs, etc. and no food or drink

I am in love with Kaaterskill! The site fee is OK, but I want a reasonably priced caterer that would include 3 courses instead of 6 and an open bar is a must for 150 people. Help! What caterers in the area are under 100 per person???

Hi! I am looking for the same kind of thing for my 2014 wedding. I’m wondering what you ended up going with, and if you could send me a spreadsheet as well (if you still have it handy!) Thanks!

I went with The Garrison in Garrison, NY 4-27-14 and I am so excited! Work with Annie, she is awesome and they accommodated a vegetarian wedding which is what I wanted!

Can you send me the list as well?
I’ve been looking for a barn in the Hudson Valley to have my wedding some time in late summer/early fall of 2014 (we’re flexible). Our budget is like $20-$25K, anyone do something like this?
Kaaterskill is totally booked for 2014 and told me it would be $8,000 for 2015. I was considering Apple Barn, but the coordinator there seemed pretty nuts and doesn’t want to talk to you unless you’re handing her $25K for her to do everything you want. The Liberty View guy emailed me and insisted on a phone call but won’t get on the phone with me. I’m at my wit’s end!
Anyone have any other ideas?

@kamilotte: There is the Hill in Hudson. I have no idea how much it costs though. http://hudsonvalleyweddings.net/
Mount Gulian in Beacon has a barn-like space too. I was quoted somewhere around 4k for the rental I think, but you need to bring in bathrooms above a certain number of guests.
I also found this in my hunts but couldn’t really find many blog posts of real couples that went this route. But it did look intriguing!

@MsLabRat, thank you for your response!
I found this super helpful list that I’ll leave here in case others have the same question about venues in the Hudson Valley:

Hi all! I just wanted to apologize to everyone who responded to my post from 2 years ago whom I never got back to. Some of you even emailed me wonderful information. My mother passed away shortly after this post and I pretty much cancelled all my research. We are now officially starting the process again and I didn’t want to seem like the fickle girl who asked for info 2 years ago and just ignored the replies.

DesiMercedes: Hi Desi, so sorry to hear that. I came across your post today because it seems like I’m looking for the same thing you are looking for, too. I’m also looking for a rustic place within 90 miles from the city. Preferably within one hour of Port Jervis, ny because that’s where my family is coming from. I’m looking at blooming hill farm this weekend and was emailed back about liberty view farms, I’m wondering what you were quoted for liberty view farms back when you went to look at it. Have you find another cool barn venue in the area? Apple Barn Farms, a bit far but awesome, told me they aren’t doing any more weddings at all. Thanks in advance!
