My husband and I are so ready to have children now. I stopped birth control in February to begin preparing my body, but we are not actively TTC yet. I am charting and right now we are avoiding during my fertile time. We have a one year anniversary trip planned in July and then I have to travel for work as soon as we return from our anniversary trip (which based on current charting Ill be away for business when I would be ovulating that month.) I am a teacher so I would like to try to have our child by June next year. I have a trip planned for next year at the end of June-beginning of July where I will be bringing students on an experience that has already been planned. I know you cant fly late in pregnancy, so my question is when should we begin ttc? This timeline seems to not leave much time and I’m worried if it takes awhile it may push things off. Any advice would be helpful, but I know I dont want to wait until next July to begin trying.

When you say that you want to have your child by June of next year, do you mean you want to have given birth by then or just be starting to ttc by then? The way you phrased it makes it sound like you want to have the baby by next June, which would be difficult since you would need to conceive in the next couple of months, and I don’t think having a baby in June would be ideal with the student trip you’re planning for late June/early August.

Timelines are great, but your body may not follow it.
TTC is not easy, for a healthy woman the chance of getting PG is only 20% every month. Some women are lucky and it doesn’t take long, some women spend a long time before getting their BFP. (For me it took 7 months).
In my opinion it wouldn’t be a bad thing to start trying this summer.

Yes I was hoping to have have already given birth by next June but i know that may not be possible. I wouldn’t mind being pregnant for the trip next July but, I would be afraid to be too far along to fly then. I guess I’m just concerned to start now with all the traveling il be doing in July and August this year. I know it may not happen right away…but have others traveled/flown during early pregnancy?

I agree with
@Lyndzo: our body does its own thing. If I was you, I would think what months/dates I wouldn’t be ok having a baby and go from there. For a July baby, you are probably safe starting TTC in October of this year. Good luck!

If you’re not worried about not being able to drink during your anniversary trip, start right away. If that is not an option, start after your trip, so you have a chance to have the little one before your trip next summer. You never know how long it will take. You could always take a short break to avoid being too close to the due date during your summer trip.

@futuremrscollette: I’ve talked to my doctor about this. She says not to fly in the last trimester. She says the only worry with flying in the first trimester is the chance of miscarrying while you are away, since the odds are highest in the first. The actual flight has no concerns and won’t hurt you.
